While Indian Premier League is just around the corner, video streaming service of Star India, Hotstar has launched a self-service ad tool called Hotstar Adserve. This is simply one lucrative opportunity for small-sized advertisers to showcase their advertisements on a well-known platform that attracts massive viewership globally.
Star India is the proud digital and television rights holders of the IPL globally after signing a 5-year contract last year for a colossal Rs 6,247.5 crore bid. The cricket tournament is scheduled to begin on 7th April and will be broadcast in six languages, namely Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, Bengali, Hindi, and English. This diversity of languages is an initiative from Hotstar to reach over 700 Mn viewers across digital and television platform during this year’s 6 month broadcast of the tournament.

Getting Started with Hotstar Adserve
Step 1: Visit http://brands.hotstar.com/
Once you land on the homepage, you will find an option “Advertise on Hotstar“( Currently open for VIVO IPL). Click on it to get started.
Step 2: New users will need to create an account entering their basic details such as Name, email-id, phone number, and password. Upon, successful sign-up, you will be able to move to next step.
Step 3: Once you are successfully signed in, Click “New Campaign”. Before, you proceed there is an option to “see specifications” that will provide all the details of video format that needs to be uploaded to your campaign.
Step 4: Select your category( Sports in this case). Hotstar is expected to introduce “entertainment category” too in some time.
Pick a Tournament
Currently, the Adserve is receiving entries for VIVO IPL starting next week. Though, the website has mentioned it will accept entries for Asia Cup and VIVO PRO Kabbadi in coming months.
Add in Your Campaign Details
Enter Your Campaign Name and click on “continue”. The next step involves updating your campaign schedule. Select the dates of your event.
There is an option that says “Add runs on:” that lets users chose the within three categories namely:
- All matches and language feeds
- Matches where only selected teams are playing
- All Matches but on selected feed language
Determining Your Budget and Goal
This involves choosing your budget value that starts from 10 lakhs and goes up to 1 crore and plus.
If your budget falls within 1 crore, you are all set to move ahead and upload your creative. But, advertisers having a budget exceeding 1 crore need to contact Sales Team, details of which are already mentioned on the website.Once the sales team comes across your message, it will contact you within 24-48 hours.
Upload Your Advertisement Video
The last and the most crucial step involves uploading your advertisement video in the acceptable format which includes:
- Video Length: Up to 20 seconds
- Bit Rate: 50 Mbit/CBR
- Aspect Ratio:16:9
- Frame Rate: 25 fps
There is a landing page URL field that needs to be mentioned too. This will take the user to the page mentioned once they click your video.Make sure to keep in sync with the Google policy that requires your display URL as well as landing page URL to have the same domain name.
Once all these steps are successfully completed, a confirmation e-mail with payment details will be sent to the user at his/her registered email-id.
