India continues to be 3rd in Startup Ecosystem, adds over 1100 start-ups in 2019

Adding over 1,100 start-ups in 2019, India continues to reinforce its position as the third largest start-up ecosystem across the world, taking the total number of tech start-ups to 8900-9300 in the last five years, NASSCOM said here on Tuesday. The IT industry body also said that Indian startup ecosystem is geared up for "10X" growth trajectory by 2025. "From 2014-2025 the 10 year period that we will see, the Indian startup ecosystem is geared up for 10X growth trajectory over these ten yerars, which is pretty phenomenal. Indian Government Will Bear Merchant Charges On Debit Cards To Promote Digital Transactions

Indian government is trying to encourage small shopkeepers to accept electronic payments, by bearing the merchant charges, that one needs to pay to the banks, on purchases of up to Rs 2,000 starting January 1, 2018. The subsidy will be provided to the small shop owners who now need to pay a fees to the banks for transactions through Debit cards, BHIM or Aadhaar. In India, where the average debit transaction value is just Rs 1,500, accepting debit cards for payments will become as cheap as accepting cards for small merchants. Indian Government Made No Provision to Allocate Funds to Startups Under Startup India Initiative

The government has made no provision for its ambitious India Aspiration Fund, part of StartUp India initiative, for the next financial year and has reduced the allocation to Rs 100 crore from Rs 600 crore made earlier for the current fiscal. In order to provide support to startups through Fund of Fund operations, IAF, with a corpus of Rs 2,000 crore, was launched by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in August 2015 to enhance the equity availability to MSMEs. LIC was also made partner and co-investor in the India Aspiration Fund managed by SIDBI. As per the Budget 2017-18 document, the government had made allocation of Rs 500 crore for 2015-16 when the fund was launched. The commerce and industry ministry is looking to engage consultants to promote the government's Startup India campaign for budding entrepreneurs. The department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP), under the ministry, has issued an advertisement for engaging a senior consultant and two consultants for the Startup India initiative. It has invited applications from eligible candidates for "engagement as senior consultant/consultant on contractual basis." It said the job responsibilities for the senior consultant include assessment of the existing startup ecosystem in the country, identifying the national and international best practices, making recommendations to facilitate growth of startups and monitoring implementation of action plans, schemes and programmes.
