Amazon to Buy Publishing Business of Tata-Owned Westland

US-based e-commerce giant Amazon today said it is acquiring the publishing business of Tata-owned Westland for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will enable authors of Westland, a subsidiary of Tata Group firm Trent, to grow their physical and digital book businesses in India as well as expand their reach to customers globally, Amazon said in a statement here. Amazon.com Inc on Wednesday launched a full-fledged music streaming service with subscriptions as low as $3.99 per month for owners of its Amazon Echo speaker, accelerating the industry trend toward more flexible pricing after years of sticking to $9.99 subscriptions. The new streaming service, called "Amazon Music Unlimited," lets users access a vast catalog of songs on demand, similar to Spotify and Apple Music. Google Launches Digital Voice Assistant, Expecting to Ship Nearly 3 Million Devices in 2017

On Tuesday, Google announced Google Home, its always-listening digital voice assistant device and competitor to Amazon Echo, helping to expand the market for digital voice assistant devices. Strategy Analytics' research indicates that the digital voice assistant device category is one that will grow quickly, with annual shipments totaling 15.1M units by 2020, up from 1.8M units in 2016. Amazon to Set Up 3 More Fulfillment Centres By Year-end

E-commerce giant Amazon will set up three more fulfillment centres in India taking the total number to 27 by the end of this year, a senior executive of the company said here today. "Right now, we have 24 fulfillment centres. By the end of this year, we should be closing with around 27 fulfillment centres. That would give a storage capacity of around 7.5 million cubic feet. That is one of the largest investments we committed to India," Noor Patel, Director Category Management, Amazon India told reporters in a press conference.
