Gmail New Features: At a Glance
Offline Support
The new Gmail will have an “offline mode” that will work in absence of internet connectivity. The messages and contacts will be synced and downloaded as soon as the device will be connected to the internet.
Gmail Nudge!
This allows users to get reminders to important emails they have missed. Mails from two days and back will pop up at the top of the inbox, the mechanism is based on Google’s ‘machine learning’ where it is trying to identify which emails are ‘important’ to a user.
Attachment Acess without Opening Email
Gmail will now have attachments listed in Inbox, visible just below the message that can be clicked to access directly without opening the Gmail.
High-priority push notifications
This feature will filter the number of notifications and will point out only important or urgent notifications.According to Google, almost 97% percent of push notifications will be reduced.
Smart Reply
While it was already present in the mobile version, the new overhaul makes it available to web version too. This involves sending almost 3 short replies to email which can be edited or immediately sent depending on what a user wants to do.
Assistive unsubscribe
Under this, a one-click option will be available to users from unsubscribing from pesky mailing lists. Usually, these messages aren’t really read by most users or fall in the Spam folder.
The new update is more of a new avatar of Gmail, hence it’s is possible that some users do not like the switch. Keeping this in mind, Gmail has incorporated a feature to switch back, that will take the user back to old mode. In order to switch back, all you need to do is to click on “Go back to classic Gmail” option and it will take you back to its former design.
Gmail has reported that this was one of the most expensive overhauls that have taken two years to come into play, making the platform more robust, secure while including offline functionality. Additionally, the update is being considered one of the most expensive Google’s update to software in its Gsuite workplace bundle.
