Facebook Reports Security Breach Affecting 50 Million Users

Facebook is again in the news headlined these days, where it reported a security breach that affected 50 million accounts. The hack occurred on September 25, when Facebook’s engineering team discovered a security breach.

This breach enabled unknown attackers to take over 50 million user accounts, and another 40 million were vulnerable to the attack. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company did not know who was behind this attack. Also, he claimed that he did not have any information whether any of the accounts that were hacked were misused.

Attackers reportedly stole Facebook access tokens through its “view as” feature. The “view as” feature allows the users to see how their own profile looks like to the other users.

Also, Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp, mentioned publicly about his #DeleteFacebook tweet and the reason he left Facebook in August last year to focus on a nonprofit.
