Vodafone’s CEO Now Becomes the Chairman of COAI

The telecom industry organization COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) on Thursday announced the appointment of Sunil Sood as the chairman of the company who was the Managing Director & CEO of Vodafone India since 2015. Ajai Puri, who has been the Chief Operating Officer of Bharti Airtel will be the vice chairman of the association. Sunil Sood from the past two years playing the role of the Vice Chairman of COAI and now has replaced Gopal Vittal who held the position of Chairman till now and also was Bharti Airtel's MD and CEO for India and South Asia. Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm has reported a considerable growth in profits in the March-ended financial year. Reliance Jio saw a net profit of Rs 510 crore in the quarter ended March compared with Rs 504 crore in the previous three months. Jio’s operating revenue increased 3.6 percent reaching to Rs 7,128 crore. Vodafone and BSNL Go toe-to-toe with Jio’s New Rs 349 Plan

Since Jio’s entry in the Indian telecom market, the competition for the best data plan has been fierce; with ever dropping prices and better data plan deals. Vodafone and BSNL, two major competitors of Mukesh Ambani’s telecom company have announced a new prepaid plan, priced at Rs 349 each. Vodafone subscribers will benefit from 3GB of 4G/3G data per day, unlimited local, STD and roaming calls, and 100 SMS messages per day for the duration of 28 days. As for BSNL users, they will benefit from 1GB data and 100 SMS everyday but for 54 days. Telenor Financial Services, IDFC Bank and Sun Pharma's Dilip Shanghvi have decided to withdraw their licence to set up a payments bank. They are the second applicant to withdraw from the licence after Cholamandalam group pulled out of payments banks race a couple of months back. In a joint press statement, the partners said: "Dilip Shanghvi, IDFC Bank and Telenor Financial Services jointly agree to withdraw plans to establish a payments bank venture and consequently the payment bank licence will not be pursued." Hackers broke into nearly 2,000 Vodafone UK customer accounts

LONDON- Vodafone UK said on Saturday hackers had accessed the accounts of 1,827 of its customers this week, the second cyber attack on a British telecoms company this month. The attackers had potentially gained access to the victims' bank sort codes and the last four numbers of their bank accounts, along with their names and mobile telephone numbers, a Vodafone spokesman said. "This incident was driven by criminals using email addresses and passwords acquired from an unknown source external to Vodafone," he added in a statement. (more…)
