Paytm, Savlon Express Trains on Tracks Soon

Paytm Express and Savlon Swachh Bharat Express will soon chug along the tracks as the Indians Railways roll out brand trains. Brands will find prominence on trains as the railways have offered the inside and the outside of compartments for showcasing products. Coaches of premier trains will be used for vinyl advertising of various brands including mobile e-company Paytm and Savlon of ITC, a railway official said. In an attempt to shore up its non-tariff revenue, railways will award advertising contracts of all Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto Express shortly. Railways, which has earned Rs 10,181 cr from non-fare revenue sector in the 2016-17, set an ambitious target of Rs 14,000 cr in the current fiscal. IRCTC Launched New App “IRCTC Connect” For Hassle Free Journey

To make train journeys pleasant and hassle-free, railways will launch an integrated mobile app for availing all travel-related services such as hiring taxis, porters and booking retiring rooms and lounges at stations among others. The app "IRCTC Connect" which aims to provide a one stop solution for various services can be used for booking tickets, ordering food from a favourite restaurant or finding hotel rooms of passengers' choice outside the stations. The application is likely to be launched early next year as the required ground work for it is underway, a senior Railway Ministry official said. IRCTC Tie-Up With Defence Food Research For Better Food Quality in Trains

Seeking to upgrade its catering operations, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) today signed an agreement with the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) here for transfer of technology in food and beverage processing and packaging. Under the agreement, DFRL, a Defence Ministry establishment under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), will transfer the technical know how and testing for quality assurance to IRCTCs ready-to-eat packaged food for the rail travelers. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off India’s first semi-high speed train Gatimaan Express running at a speed of 160 kmph. The train has reached Agra in 100 mins (Avg. time set is 90 mins). Gatimaan Express will run between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Agra Cantonment stations. Soon, Differently-Abled Can Avail Rail Travel Concessions Online

The Indian Railways is fulfilling its social obligations towards Divyang, senior citizens and women travellers, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Thursday while presenting the rail budget in the Lok Sabha. Prabhu said that for Divyang (differently-abled), the railways have introduced one-time registration for availing concessions while booking tickets online, online booking of wheelchairs and Braille-enabled new coaches. Also, the quota of lower berths has been increased for senior citizens and women. "In the coming financial year, the railways is increasing the senior citizen quota per coach by 50 percent, resulting in almost 120 lower berths per train for senior citizens," he said. ISRO Developed 1st Satellite-based Warning System For Unmanned Railway Crossings

The first trial run for developing a satellite-based system to warn train drivers on unmanned railway crossings was conducted by ISRO scientists in Ahmedabad recently. Scientists at the city-based Space Applications Centre (SAC) are now in the process of commercially developing this system that will be fitted on 50 different trains across the country as a second part of the demonstration project.
