Singapore started Automated Immigration Clearance Lanes at Changi Airport

Singapore, May 19, 2024 Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) proudly announces the extension of automated immigration lanes to all foreign visitors arriving at Singapore Changi Airport, regardless of nationality or the type of passport, making the arrival process more efficient and stress-free.

The new development incorporates biometric identification using iris and facial recognition technology as the primary identifiers for immigration clearance. In instances where these methods prove unsuccessful, fingerprints will be utilized as an additional biometric identifier.

Unnecessary registration is no longer a prerequisite for utilizing these advanced facilities. Passengers can now seamlessly proceed through the automated lanes upon arrival. Forward-thinking departing foreign visitors can benefit from using these gates as well when exiting Changi Airport.

Prior to this development, only Singapore residents and passport holders from 60 territories enjoyed this privilege during both arrival and departure immigration clearance at Changi Airport.

Anticipated by the end of 2024,Singapore residents, as well as all departing travelers, shall undergo contactless immigration clearance without the necessity of physically presenting their passports. This projected enhancement expected to diminish the processing time for immigration clearance at Changi Airport by approximately 40%.

For travelers utilizing wheelchairs and family groups with young children (up to four persons), Special Assistance Lanes are available at selected Departure and Arrival Immigration Halls at Singapore’s Changi Airport for automated immigration clearance.

Trained ICA officers are stationed at Changi Airport’s Departure and Arrival Immigration Halls to offer support to travelers in need of assistance. While manual immigration counters are still accessible, automated options aim to streamline the immigration process.

When traveling to Singapore, it is essential to note that all Singapore residents and foreign visitors are required to complete the SG Arrival Card, along with the Electronic Health Declaration, either online or through the MyICA Mobile application before their arrival. Ensuring you submit your SG Arrival Card ahead of time guarantees a hassle-free and efficient arrival immigration clearance process at Changi Airport.

By utilizing the Special Assistance Lanes and taking advantage of the automated immigration clearance system at Singapore’s Changi Airport, travelers can enjoy a smoother and more efficient arrival experience. Don’t forget to complete your SG Arrival Card in advance to make your entry into Singapore a breeze.
