After shaking the telecom market with a new kind of data revolution in the country, Reliance Jio has once again created a buzz as it is about to offer internet, videos and voice call for less than Rs 1000 a month.
Such a disruptive offering will not only amp up competition in the telecom sector but surely give an edge to Jio over rival broadband and DTH players.
Considering a move targeted on bundled tariffs, a report published on a popular daily has said that the internet telco is venturing into wider internet segment by the end of this year. This will also bring Jio’s fibre-to-the-home (services) under unlimited calling through a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone as well as JioTV.
Reliance Jio presently offers free broadband within unlimited internet at 100 Mbps against a security deposit of Rs. 4,500. Moreover, speculations are also floating in the market regarding company’s IPTV services and DTH set-top box which will tentatively be called as “Jio Home TV“, though the official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited.
Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel is also pushing in-home broadband offerings to expands its coverage. It has recently introduced a broadband plan with speeds of up to 300 Mbps at a monthly rental of Rs2,990, with 1,200GB of data and a free subscription to Airtel’s over-the-top apps Wynk Music and Airtel TV.
Additionally, Reliance Industries has recently packed with Saavn, a move targeted to increase focus on its content in its digital music service JioMusic. It has also purchased a 5% stake in movie based firm Eros International Plc. All such moves surely bring out the fact that Jio actively pushing its strategies to move beyond telecom space and set its hold on the wider digital market.
