Walmart Plans to Offer 30,000 Jobs in Uttar Pradesh

The multinational retail corporation Walmart is seeing Uttar Pradesh as a major source of recruitment. The company is seeking to offer at least 30,000 local jobs by setting up 15 stores in the state.

Walmart India at present operates four Cash and Carry stores in UP and had recently launched a fulfillment center (FC) in Lucknow, which offered 1,500 fresh skilled jobs.

“Each store is likely to create 2,000 direct and indirect jobs, thereby generating at least 30,000 local jobs in the state,” said Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer who represented Walmart India in the Investment Summit.

Earlier this year, during the UP Investment Summit, Walmart India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government to launch 15 wholesale Cash and Carry stores. According to the reports, on Sunday, the company will be attending the groundbreaking ceremony in Lucknow where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will take stock of the progress in the implementation of the MoUs that were signed this year.

 

 

This particular event will see the inauguration of a number of projects worth Rs 60,000 crore by big companies such as Walmart, Mahindra, PayTm, Reliance, Adani, TCS and GAIL.

“UP is a priority growth state for us. Walmart is making deep investment in agriculture supply chain, enhancing small farmers capabilities and sourcing from them for its stores in UP and other states,” Kumar said. “We are delighted to bring best practices in retail to our kiranas, best practices in farming and food safety to our farmers and SME suppliers.”

Through the Cash and Carry stores and FC in the city, the company claims to create new jobs and also support the small kiranas, farmers and local SME suppliers in their success. Walmart also claims to make a difference to the lives of lakhs of farmers, kiranas and local suppliers the company grows the business with the vision of bringing inclusive prosperity.

Walmart currently has its stores and FCs at Lucknow, Agra and Meerut. Along with these cities, it is also expanding to Varanasi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Gorakhpur, among others.
