Multiple women have accused Uber investor Shervin Pishevar of sexual misconduct, in a talk with Bloomberg. Pishevar, an early investor of San Francisco based ride-hailing company has been alleged with the misconduct, that he outdid in December 2014.
Uber held a holiday party on an unfurnished floor at its headquarters in San Francisco, which was attended by its investors and employees. They came in flamboyant attire from the “Roaring ‘20s” and drank at an open bar into the early morning hours. Venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar, several attendees recall, brought a live pony on a leash.
According to the attendees of the party, the then-40-years-old Shervin approached Uber’s 30-years-old Austin Geidt, head of global expansion.
During his moves, he placed his hand on her legs and tried to move it up her dress. Geidt squirmed away Bloomberg reported.
This was not the first time that Pishevar had made advance towards Geidt, which she obviously had declined to entertain. Geidt had joined as an intern in Uber back in 2010. Soon she was a part of the team launching Uber in new cities.
As the years passed by, Pishevar developed a crush on Geidt and started to follow her around at company events, and at times placing her hand on her legs or lower back. A person with firsthand knowledge of the holiday party incident and these other encounters confirmed the account of Pishevar’s behavior to Bloomberg. Geidt, who’s now head of operations for Uber’s autonomous driving unit, declined to comment for this story.
Five other women, who met Pishevar in a business context told the source that were in some way or other sexually assaulted or harassed by him. They all asked not to be identified, citing fears over the investor’s history of filing lawsuits and concerns that he could wield his influence in the tech industry to ruin their careers.
Pishevar, earlier this year got a UK court to prohibit a local newspaper from reporting his arrest following a rape allegation against him.
Randa Osman, his lawyer at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, says Pishevar and Geidt maintained “a friendly, professional relationship” and referenced emails from 2015 and 2016 in which she agreed to meet him for lunch and coffee.
Pishevar, co-founder and managing director of Sherpa Capital, is a powerful figure in the Valley and a bridge to establishment figures on both coasts. He cultivated a relationship with Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick and publicly came to his defense when he was ousted as chief executive officer and sued by another investor.
