Realme Seperates from Oppo to Build its Own Entity

Recently, Chinese player Oppo launched a phone under its sub-brand called Realme named “Realme 1” in May. The handset maker Realme has now announced that it is separating from its parent company to become a distinct brand. The company will be headed by Sky Li who is the former senior executive of Oppo and head of Oppo India.

With the separation, Realme has an objective of focusing on providing mobile phones in future that provide powerful performance and attractive designs to young people at affordable prices.

“Young people across the globe may have different cellphone habits and aesthetic views but their demands are similar in terms of performance and design,” said Li, who has now joined Realme as the global CEO of the company.

Sky Li had originally made the announcement of separating from Oppo and founding the brand Realme on Chinese microblogging website named Weibo. This is the second example when an executive from the smartphone company has left the core business unit to join a new brand. Prior to this, Pete Lau left Oppo and commenced OnePlus.

“With few options available in the market to meet the ever-changing customer demand, Realme is focusing on bridging the gap by providing products with the latest innovations along with strong performance and stylish designs. As Realme is targeting the global market, we aspire to inject fresh momentum into the global smartphone industry,” Li added.

Realme 1 witnessed sales of four lakh units in 40 days and quickly captured 1.4 percent market share with only one month’s sales in the second quarter of 2018. With the huge success of the brand, the company has decided to part ways from Oppo and build its own brand value.
