Netflix, the world’s leading online video streaming platform is reportedly going to discontinue an existing feature from August that earlier enabled the users to read and write reviews of the several movies and TV series.
Netflix is a streaming video giant that allows the users to watch a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, documentaries, and more on thousands of Internet-connected devices. The users who want to share their views on a show or movie will only be able to do it till the 30th of July and after that, the feature will be gone.
Posting and sharing reviews has been a part of Netflix for a number of years now that helped the users to know how the movie or show is before even watching it. Also, Netflix once brought the rating scale feature in which the users could rate between one to five stars, but this feature also was transformed last year to thumbs up and thumbs down.
“This feature is only offered on the website and has seen declining usage over time,” said Netflix spokesperson Smita Saran.
The feature of the review was enabled only on the website version and not on the mobile application and therefore was not getting the expected amount of attraction. Netflix spokeswoman also stated that these written reviews didn’t influence the system Netflix uses to recommend shows to its users.
The Netflix users will no longer be able to write their feedback on a show or movie, and in mid-August, they will no longer be able to read existing user reviews on Netflix as well. Meanwhile, Netflix still uses the data from star-ratings in its recommendation engine and stated that it has received more ratings under its thumbs up and thumbs down feature.
