Huawei Mate 20 X Review, Features & Pricing

The Chinese manufacturer Huawei is setting a bar and giving a hard time to its competitors. Huawei’s New Mate 20 X does most of the things flawlessly, with a gigantic 7.2 inches display and a new 7nm Kirin 980 chipset this thing is yet another monster when it comes to Mobile Gaming.

Without further due here’s our full review for the new Huawei Mate 20 X,

Design and Build Quality

The Mate 20 X is a gigantic “mobile” with mostly the same design aesthetics as the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 pro. The back on the Mate 20 X is made out of textured glass that gives it a nice premium feel in your hand and also “tries” to prevent it from slipping, the back also houses the squircle shaped 3 camera module that we saw in the Mate 20 and 20 pro and right below the camera module is the fingerprint reader. You can easily buy this phone online using Paytm Mall Coupons with great discounts.

On the top, the Mate 20 X has the secondary microphone, an IR blaster, a 3.5mm headphone jack and the “secondary” stereo speaker while on the bottom there’s the main microphone, a USB type-C charging port and the primary stereo speaker.

The device has a beautiful aluminum frame and on the right side inhabits the volume rockers and the power button while on the left side is the Hybrid sim tray.

Talking about the Front, on the top of the screen is the speakerphone and just below it is the selfie camera and the teardrop camera notch.

Display

One of the key differences between the Huawei Mate 20 X and the Mate 20 and 20 Pro is the massive 7.2 Inches full HD+ AMOLED display with an 18.7: 9 aspect ratio.

The Display is certainly an upgrade from the LCD panel we saw on the Mate 20 but still far behind from the Mate 20 Pro’s Quad HD display. The enormous screen on this thing makes this phone ideal for gaming and multitasking.

The Huawei Mate 20 X has a resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels and a pixel density of about 346ppi and if we talk about the colors on this screen, well they are… meh. The colors on the Huawei Mate 20 X are just a little too theatrical but that can be changed in settings.

Looking at the screen size the small teardrop notch on the top doesn’t seem to be much obstructive, the side bezels are also thin and a screen to body ratio of about 87% is also highly appreciable and appealing.

Performance and Interface

The Huawei Mate 20 X runs on the company’s best and most powerful chipset, the Kirin 980. It also packs the Mali-G76 MP10 GPU which is also one of the fastest GPU’s in the market. The base model of the Huawei Mate 20 X comes with a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. However, there is another 8GB/256GB version of the phone available.

The company is highly promoting the phone’s gaming aesthetics which is digestible looking at the performance of this phone during the benchmark tests.

The Huawei Mate 20 X scored about a 276,206 in AnTuTu’s benchmarks and a 3,337 in a geekbench 4 single core test. The numbers are good but still comparing it to the Nintendo switch seems a little overwhelming.

Talking about the interface and the software, the Huawei Mate 20 X is running on Android 9 Pie right out of the box. Huawei Mate 20 X uses Huawei’s custom UI, the EMUI 9.0 which is okay if you’re high into customization. Despite its drawbacks, the EMUI 9.0 provides a ton of features that can come handy once you get used to them like the new dark mode, smart gestures and the one-handed mode.

Camera

The camera on the Huawei Mate 20 X is the same as the camera on the Mate 20 pro. It’s a triple camera setup, the primary camera is an f/1.8 40 MP shooter there’s another f/2.4 8 MP telephoto camera with Optical Image Stabilization and the last is an f/2.2 20 MP ultra-wide camera. The front camera is an f/2.0 20 MP shooter. In terms of camera various options available in market and one can buy those using Mobikwik Offers with great deals.

The cameras on the Huawei Mate 20 X are good, not better than what the pixel 3 and pixel 3 XL have to offer but it will definitely give you the feels of owning a flagship phone.

The camera has a lot of features that will come handy like the night mode, an AI mode and many others like the super slow-motion video capturing mode. The Huawei Mate 20 X can shoot 4K ultra HD videos as well.

Battery Life

The Huawei Mate 20 X packs a gigantic 5,000mAh battery and supports fast charging or as termed by Huawei “the supercharge technology”.

The charger that comes with the Huawei Mate 20 X is a 22.5W charger.

You can get a screen on time of about 10-11 hours before you’ll need to charge your phone again but If you’re not a heavy user the Huawei Mate 20 X can last up to a day or two for you. The Huawei Mate 20 X doesn’t support wireless charging which is a shame since it is the least you can expect from phones with such a high price tag.

Verdict

The base model of the Huawei Mate 20 X is expected to be priced at about 77,000 rupees in India. The Huawei Mate 20 X is an absolute beast in terms of battery life and design but it still doesn’t match up to the hype that Huawei was creating about this phone’s gaming performance. This phone is definitely for you if you’re looking for a phone with a big display and battery life and an average gaming performance like most of the other flagships have, but if a big display or battery life is not one of your essential needs, we suggest you go for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro or any other flagship smartphone.
