The demand for small warehouses within city limits is expected to rise over the next one year as e-commerce firms are targeting to ensure same-day deliveries of food and grocery items to customers, according to a report. The demand is likely to be for warehousing of 5000-10,000 sq ft size, property consultant Colliers International said. “E-commerce companies are focussing on same-day delivery with the pandemic-influenced lockdowns placing greater dependency on e-commerce for food and grocery items,” the report said. Amazon testing wearable device for Warehouse workers to maintain social distancing

San Francisco, June 17: E-commerce player Amazon.com is testing a wearable device that will alert warehouse workers to maintain social distance at work during the Chinese Covid-19 epidemic. The wearable device will sound a loud beeping noise and flashes light when workers do not maintain the safe distance. According to a report in CNBC on Tuesday, the device comprises a clear plastic sleeve and a clip that has an LED light and audio system embedded in it. The device will be used by Amazon's facility in Kent, Washington, starting Wednesday, said the report, citing a private online group for warehouse workers. Amazon to Add 7 New Warehouses in India, Hire 4,000 people

E-commerce giant Amazon continues to aggressively expand its operations in the country with the addition of seven new warehouses, a move that will provide employment to about 4,000 people. The US-based company, which has committed an investment of USD 5 billion in the Indian market, will have 41 warehouses or Fulfilment Centres (FCs) by the end of June this year. Amazon, which is locked in an intense battle with local rival, Flipkart, has been pumping in funds to expand infrastructure and technology platform in the country. Warehouse Demand For E-commerce Firms Increases 22% in 2015: Study

E-commerce has emerged as one of the key drivers for warehouse realty after third party logistics operators in 2015, a recent study by property consultant CBRE South Asia.  Third party logistics operators constituted 30 per cent of the total demand for warehouse realty followed by e-commerce at 22 per cent. Nearly 2 million sqft of warehousing space was taken up by e-commerce firms in 2015, which is a significant jump as the share of the sector rose from a meagre 2 per cent of the total warehousing demand in 2012, to around 22 per cent during 2015.
