Amazon’s Grocery Push Playing Catch Up With Chinese E-commerce Giants

As Amazon.com Inc looks to swallow U.S. grocery chain Whole Foods, China's tech giants are already digesting hefty bricks-and-mortar deals, taking the lead in the battle to transform supermarket shopping with big data and better supply chains. China's Alibaba Group Holding and JD.com Inc have invested heavily in offline retail - bricks-and-mortar stores - in recent years to complement their online offerings. With their ready-made payment and social media platforms to lure shoppers, Alibaba and JD.com have helped China become the world’s largest online grocery market, far ahead of the United States. This early lead, cemented by densely populated urban areas and cheap labor, could be key as retailers and tech firms race to boost margins on low-cost consumer goods by reinventing supp...

New Digital Map to Track Racial Diversity in US

Scientists in the US have created the most detailed digital map to track the changing racial diversity of every neighbourhood in the country. Researchers from University of Cincinnati (UC) in the US applied NASA map making techniques to 20 years of data collected by the US Census Bureau to build one of the most detailed racial-diversity maps ever created. They take advantage of NASA land-cover grids made up of 30-square-metre blocks. Using this grid system, they can more precisely group people where they actually live by recognising lakes, parks, factories and otherwise uninhabitable areas. Researchers combined land-cover mapping techniques with cumbersome volumes of federal data collected every 10 years in the census. The zoomable map shows at a glance how the racial compositi...

pCommerce- The Global Perspective of ‘People’ in India

World is appreciating and recognizing ‘people’ from India, then why is India lagging to figure out the projection of investment from its own ‘people’? Why isn’t India able to harvest it and reap itself huge pool of benefits? Japan has leveraged its cultural emphasis on ‘efficiency and team work’, to revolutionize the manufacturing and engineering industries. The Republic of Korea (Korea) has utilized its cultural emphasis on ‘speed’, and it has built some world-class companies such as Samsung and LG. China has sustained a GDP growth of more than 10% for more than two decades by virtue of its ‘ability to scale’. The United States of America (USA) and Israel have leveraged the diversity of their populations to lead innovation globally. I firmly believe that now it is India’s turn ...

Mc’Donald’s Trumpet’ – Company Apologises For Hacked Tweet Slamming US President

AFP- McDonald's apologized Thursday after it briefly posted on Twitter a blast criticizing President Donald Trump, which the company blamed on a hack from an external source. They quickly deleted the tweet and offered an uncharitable appraisal of Trump, saying, "You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have Barack Obama back, also you have tiny hands." The tweet was removed mid-morning Thursday soon after being posted to one of McDonald's official Twitter feeds -- but not before being retweeted more than a thousand times and garnering plenty of attention in political and media circles. "Based on our investigation, we have determined that our Twitter account was hacked by an external source," said McDonald's spokeswoman Terri Hickey in a statement. ...

Mark Zuckerberg Criticises Donald Trump on Immigration Limit, Gave Example of His Wife

America is a nation of immigrants and should be proud of it, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said as he criticised President Donald Trump's decision to severely limit immigrants and refugees from certain Muslim-majority countries. "Like many of you, I'm concerned about the impact of the recent executive orders signed by President Trump," Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page. "We need to keep this country safe, but we should do that by focusing on people who actually pose a threat ... We should also keep our doors open to refugees and those who need help. That's who we are." "We should also keep our doors open to refugees and those who need help. That's who we are. Had we turned away refugees a few decades ago, Priscilla's family wouldn't be here today," he wrote of his wife, Priscilla ...

Alibaba Blames Trump Led US Politics For Its Blacklisting For Fake Goods

China's e-commerce giant Alibaba has rejected US allegations that it sells counterfeit goods, saying the Washington's move to put it back on a blacklist of its "notorious markets" could be influenced by the "current political climate" in America. Questioning the US move, Alibaba Group President Michael Evans said he was "disappointed" by the decision and wondered whether it was "based on actual facts or was influenced by the current political climate." US President-elect Donald Trump had, during his campaign, repeatedly accused Chinese firms of stealing intellectual property. The US has again labeled Alibaba Group Holding Ltd as one of the world's largest destinations for fake goods, a major embarrassment for a Chinese e-commerce giant trying to shake off its reputation as a haven fo...
