Microsoft Wins $22 Billion Deal to make VR Headsets for US Army

Earlier today, the United States Army announced Microsoft won its $22 billion VR headset deal. In contract Microsoft to supply U.S. Army combat troops with its augmented reality headsets including Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program as it moves from rapid prototyping to production and rapid fielding. The IVAS headset, based on HoloLens and augmented by Microsoft Azure cloud services, delivers a platform that will keep Soldiers safer and make them more effective. Microsoft’s HoloLens will now be Used by the US Army on Battlefields

The US Army is looking forward to making use of Microsoft’s HoloLens on the battlefield. The Army has reportedly awarded Microsoft a $480 million contract to supply its HoloLens headsets to the soldiers. Virtual- and augmented-reality headsets haven't been much success in the consumer market, however, they're finding an important place on the battlefield. The head-mounted displays make use of augmented reality. With this, the viewers can see virtual imagery superimposed over the real-world scenery in front of them.
