Elon Musk and Twitter Closes deal for $44 billion

Twitter is in advanced discussions to sell itself to Elon Musk and could finalize a deal today on Monday, people familiar with the matter said. The two sides worked through out the night to get out a deal that would be valued at $54.20 a share, or $44 billion, the people said. Assuming there isn’t a last-minute snag, the deal is expected to be announced after the market closes on Monday. It’s not clear why the total value of the deal has increased slightly from prior expectations, but it could be related to an updated share count. Elon Musk on April 14 offered a bid to buy the company without saying how he would pay for it, calling it his "best and final" offer. Twitter had been expected to rebuff the offer, and put in place a so-called poison pill to block him from increasing his...

Twitter in discussion with TikTok for Acquisition

New York, 10th Jul 2020: According to a report, the Social media platform Twitter is in discussions for the acquisition of TikTok USA after Microsoft bid. The move of US President Donald Trump said he would ban the app in 45 days creates an opportunity for a platform like Twitter to make big in the current social media war. Trump declared Thursday that the popular Chinese video app TikTok and social network WeChat “threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.” In an executive order, Trump gave Americans 45 days to stop doing business with the platforms, effectively setting a deadline for a sale of TikTok by its Chinese parent firm ByteDance. He has also demanded that a significant portion of the sale go to the US Treasury. Microsoft has ...

Facebook employees criticize Mark Zuckerberg for being Neutral over Protest

New York, Jun 2, 2020: Some Facebook employees criticize Facebook founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg's inaction over President Donald Trump post that suggested protesters in Minneapolis could be shot. While arch-rival of Facebook, Twitter took the stand and placed a warning on President's tweet about the protests “when the looting starts the shooting starts,” while Facebook founder Zuckerberg took the neutral stand and leave it to US authorities. “I know many people are upset that we've left the President's posts up, but our position is that we should enable as much expression as possible unless it will cause an imminent risk of specific harms or dangers spelled out in clear policies,” Zuckerberg wrote. The tweets of President Trump evoked the civil-rights era by borrowing a phrase...

Twitter fact check controversy: President Trump threatens new regulation or shutdown

Washington, May 28 (AP): President Donald Trump, the historically prolific tweeter of political barbs and blasts, threatened social media companies with new regulation or even shuttering after Twitter added fact checks to two of his tweets. He turned to his Twitter account to tweet his threats. The president can''t unilaterally regulate or close the companies, and any effort would likely require action by Congress. His administration has shelved a proposed executive order empowering the Federal Communications Commission to regulate technology companies, citing concerns it wouldn''t pass legal muster. But that didn''t stop Trump from angrily issuing strong warnings. Tech giants “silence conservative voices," he claimed on Twitter early Wednesday. “We will strongly regulate, or clos...

Washington, May 27th, 2020: For the first time, Twitter has flagged some of President Donald Trump's tweets with a fact-check warning. On Tuesday, Twitter added a warning phrase to two Trump tweets that called mail-in ballots "fraudulent” and predicted that "mail boxes will be robbed,” among other things. Under the tweets, there is now a link reading “Get the facts about mail-in ballots” that guides users to a Twitter “moments” page with fact checks and news stories about Trump''s unsubstantiated claims. Until now, the president has simply blown past Twitter's half-hearted attempts to enforce rules intended to promote civility and “healthy” conversation on its most prominent user. Trump frequently amplifies misinformation, spreads abuse, and uses his pulpit to personally attack...
