DoT of India Gives 100% FDI Approval to Idea Cellular

The Indian mobile network operator, Idea Cellular stated that the company obtained an approval to raise the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) limit from the Department of Telecom (DoT). The operator informed that the previous FDI limit stood at 67.5 percent and now has been raised to 100 percent on Monday. The Idea Cellular, in this context, stated, "The approval is for total foreign investment up to 100% in Idea Cellular, and total indirect FDI in its relevant subsidiaries – Aditya Birla Telecom Ltd. and Idea Cellular Infrastructure Services Ltd." India Lost 2 Crore Mobile Users in November

The number of telecom subscribers dwindled by 1.58 crore to 118.5 crore in November, even as Reliance Jio continued to lead in customer addition with over 15 crore subscribers, as per a report by Trai. "The number of telephone subscribers in India declined from 1,201.72 million at the end of October 2017 to 1,185.88 million at the end of November 2017, thereby showing a monthly decline rate of 1.32 per cent," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said in a monthly subscriber report today. The telecom regulator Trai today launched a new app that would enable subscribers to rate the quality of a phone call. The new MyCall app, along with updated and enhanced versions of MySpeed app and Do Not Disturb app are amongst a slew of web initiatives unveiled by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today. "As the mobile subscriber base increases, it is important that we continue to get feedback from the customers. The MyCall app will enable mobile phone users to rate their experience about call quality and help Trai gather data on a real time basis," Trai chairman RS Sharma said.
