No Decision Yet on Apple’s Demand For Concessions: DIPP

The government has not taken a final decision yet on the concessions being sought by US iPhone maker Apple for setting up a manufacturing unit in India, a top official said today. Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Ramesh Abhishek said that Apple has submitted certain demands for the government's consideration. "We had a meeting of all the concerned ministries and departments (on those demands) and we have asked them to look at those issues and take a view. Indian Software Company Launched Toll Free Helpline For GST Related Queries

Software development company KDK Softwares has launched a national toll-free helpline service for resolving GST-related queries. The toll-free helpline number (1800 103 9271) will be available in six languages like English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam. The helpline service was inaugurated by Rajeev Swarup, Principal Secretary, Small Industries, government of Rajasthan. "As the GST will be rolled out soon, small industries will be looking for helping hands on transition from multiple taxes and filing of returns with separate departments (VAT) to one tax (GST). Finance Ministry Will Challenge Delhi High Court Order to Refund The Service Tax of Travel Portals MakeMyTrip, Ibibo and Ebiz

A recent High Court verdict directing the central revenue authorities to refund service tax collected from three travel portals including MakeMyTrip may be challenged in Supreme Court by the government. Officials sources today said legal experts are going through the High Court order and an appeal challenging the verdict is likely to be filed in Supreme Court. Delhi High Court had on Thursday ordered Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), an intelligence arm under the Finance Ministry to refund the service tax collected from travel portals-- MakeMyTrip, Ibibo and Ebiz, saying the payment made by them "was not voluntary but under coercion and duress". The proposed 6 percent levy on online advertisement revenue of foreign companies will "severely raise the cost of doing business" for Indian tech startups, industry body IAMAI said today. "Tech startups are already paying 14.5 per cent service tax to use these ad platforms, which amounts to an estimated Rs 906 crore of taxes to government.
