Netflix Hooks 7 million New Streaming Subscribers

Video streaming service Netflix has hooked 7 million new c from July to September. The record number of additions in the third quarter brought Netflix's customer base to 137 million worldwide, confirming its rank as by far the world's biggest online subscription video service. The company's net income rose to $402.8 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, up from $129.6 million a year earlier. Total revenue rose to $4 billion from $2.98 billion a year earlier. The increase in subscribers marked a sharp turnaround from three months ago when investors sent Netflix shares tumbling 14% after it missed Wall Street's subscriber growth targets. Reliance Jio’s Growth May Trouble Its Competitors

Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm has reported a considerable growth in profits in the March-ended financial year. Reliance Jio saw a net profit of Rs 510 crore in the quarter ended March compared with Rs 504 crore in the previous three months. Jio’s operating revenue increased 3.6 percent reaching to Rs 7,128 crore. Reliance Jio Claim To Have 50 Million Paid Subscribers

Reliance Jio, India's newest telecom operator, is closing in on 50 million paid users, days before its free voice, free-data offer ends. Out of 100 million-plus free subscribers, nearly 50 million have signed up for its 'Prime' membership by paying a one-time charge of Rs 99 and buying data packs. A company official said that Jio has already achieved more than 50 per cent of the target set for Jio Prime membership. Jio's promotional Happy New Year plan that offered free voice and data ends on March 31. The company has offered customers Prime membership on payment of one-time fee of Rs 99. India may have 50 crore Internet subscribers next year: Prasad

New Delhi, (PTI) - Telecom Minister of India Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad today said Internet subscribers may reach the 50 crore mark in the country next year. "India currently has 40 crore Internet subscribers. Earlier, I have said about the target to reach 50 crore users in two years but now it looks that the 50 crore mark is likely to be achieved next year," Prasad said during a discussion on "Integration of SC/ST entrepreneurs: Digital and Skill India" here. Speaking about the Digital India programme, he said the government will connect 2.5 lakh gram panchayats with optic fibre in coming years.
