Uber Acquires AI platform to advance its Self-driving cars technology

Cab booking platform Uber has acquired computer vision startup Mighty AI to help advance its technology for self-driving cars. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the ride-hailing giant said 40 employees of the Seattle-based firm would join Uber soon. Mighty AI specialises in computer vision, a field within artificial intelligence that is used to better understand or "label" the surroundings of vehicles that will be deployed autonomously. Baidu and BYD Partner for Mass Production of Autonomous Cars

China’s largest technology company and search engine Baidu Inc and China's leading electric car maker BYD have announced their plan that bothr the companies are partnering with an aim to start mass producing self-driving cars in the coming three years' time. It was last year that Baidu had launched Project Apollo, which was titled after the Apollo moon landing project. The project was started to mark the start of its push to get self-driving cars on the road in China. China’s Baidu Tests Self-Driving Cars on Expressway

China’s search engine major, Baidu Inc. on Thursday tested its two self-driving cars on an unused expressway in north China's Tianjin City. As informed by the company, this was the very first time for Baidu's automated cars to be tested on the Tangshan-Langfang expressway which is scheduled to open later this year. The trial run conducted will enable developers to collect data on the car's performance in sensing the environment and self-control and positioning, a senior engineer with within the road test team said.
