Users use fingerprint which might be captured... in India that is the case for most of all digital wallets and mobile banking apps," Qualcomm Senior Director Product Management SY Choudhury told Pixr8. $943 Million – the Loss to Indian Economy From Internet Shutdowns

22 internet shutdowns that occurred in India between 2015 to 2016 cost the country’s economy an astonishing $968 million, contributing to a total global cost of $2.4 billion, says Darrell West in a study published by Centre for Technology Innovation, Brookings Institution. Citing the example of one such instance West says India disrupted Internet services in response to concerns over students cheating on exams. An Indian official said, "considering the sensitive nature of the exam for recruitment of talents, internet service providers have been asked to shut down all internet-based social media services from 9am to 1 pm to prevent the mobile misuse during exams. Apple Started Bounty Bug Program For Developers

Apple Inc said it plans to offer rewards of up to $200,000 (£152,433) to researchers who find critical security bugs in its products, joining dozens of firms that already offer payments for help uncovering flaws in their products. Such rewards are already offered by dozens of firms, including Facebook Inc, Google, Microsoft Corp, Tesla Motors Inc and Yahoo Inc. The program will initially be limited to about two dozen researchers who Apple will invite to help identify hard-to-uncover security bugs in five specific categories. Those researchers have been chosen from the group of experts who have previously helped Apple identify bugs, but have not been compensated for that work, the company said. The most lucrative category, which offers rewards of up to $200,000, is for bugs in Apple's ...

49% Kids Can’t Live Without Social Media – Kaspersky Lab Study

Kids today spend more of their lives online than offline, according to research carried out by Kaspersky Lab and iconKids and Youth. As kids grow older, offline activities tend to transfer to the online world. Moreover, three-in-four children prefer to use the Internet to get information, rather than any other source. These findings show that children can become even more vulnerable online without parental supervision and support. Children stay close to their mobile devices all day, and even tend to sleep with them, so that they can go online around the clock from any location. The research shows that four-in-ten are reluctant to put their smartphone down even during mealtimes. Furthermore, 23% of parents of 8-10 year olds admitted that their kids take their mobile phones to bed with...

New System Finds Security Flaws in Popular Web Apps

MIT researchers have developed a system that can quickly comb through tens of thousands of lines of application codes to find security flaws in popular web applications. In tests on 50 popular applications written using Web programming framework Ruby on Rails, the system found 23 previously undiagnosed security flaws, and took no more than 64 seconds to analyse any given programme. According to researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, the new system uses a technique called static analysis which seeks to describe in a very general way how data flows through a programme. "The classic example of this is if you wanted to do an abstract analysis of a programme that manipulates integers, you might divide the integers into the positive integers, the negativ...
