Ringing Bells,the company that promised the world's cheapest smartphone for a price of just Rs.251 seems to run into troubles managing its expenses even before delivering its first handset! Despite the huge success and being received heavy booking in the month of February, the company has not been able to source phones at the promised sale price, thus being forced to sell them at a heavy loss of over Rs 900 per unit. Two lakh ‘Freedom 251’ handsets are ready, says Ringing Bells

IANS: The world's cheapest smartphone at Rs 251 (less than $4) is here, finally. Its makers, the Noida-based startup Ringing Bells Pvt Ltd, say they have made it possible despite allegations from various quarters that such a phone would not see the light of the day. Even an FIR was lodged against the company. According to Ringing Bells' Founder and CEO Mohit Goel -- sitting comfortably in his Sector 62 office here, the company has been able to keep its promise to consumers. "We are ready with nearly two lakh 'Freedom 251' handsets. Adcom To Sue Ringing Bells

Domestic feature phone brand Advantage Computers' (Adcom) has said it may consider a legal action against Ringing Bells, the Noida-based start-up, which claimed to manufacture the world's cheapest smartphone. Adcom founder and chairman Sanjeev Bhatia said the manufacturer of Rs. 251 (less than USD 4) smartphone, distributed the Adcom handsets to the media during the launch last month. "We are deeply grieved by this incident where our mobile phone has been presented to masses for Rs.251, and therefore, would not hesitate from taking any legal actions against the company, in case the entire fiasco impacts Adcom's brand name or subsequently we face any other kind of losses," Bhatia said in a statement.
