Chinese Smartphones Maker Oppo Cleared To Open Own Stores In India

India has approved smartphones maker Oppo’s request to open single-brand retail stores in the country, paving the way for the Chinese firm to sell directly to consumers and add to its existing wholesale business. The move would help Oppo expand its reach in the world’s third-largest smartphones market, where global giants such as Apple Inc have been trying to gain a foothold. The Foreign Investment Promotion Board approved Oppo Mobiles India Pvt Ltd’s request on Tuesday, according to a notice on the department’s website. Oppo Becomes New Sponsor of Indian Cricket, Replaces Star India

Mobile manufacturing company OPPO today became the new sponsor of the Indian cricket team, replacing broadcasting giants Star India. The deal was about 1079 crore for 5 years. Oppo will pay Rs 4.61 crore per bilateral match and Rs 1.56 crore for an ICC event match, while STAR India paid Rs 1.92 crore per bilateral match and Rs 61 lakh for an ICC match. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited as the new team sponsor for the Indian Cricket Team," the BCCI said in a statement. "The mobile manufacturing giant OPPO's association with BCCI will start from April 2017 for a period of five years," it added. Betting big on the booming Indian smartphone market, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is planning an industrial park in Greater Noida which will house a manufacturing unit. "We already have a production unit in India and the SMT (surface-mount technology) centre is now undergoing the furnishment...it will be finished in February. Also, with regard to the industrial park, we will have the agreement signing press conference at the end of next month," Sky Li, vice president of Oppo and managing director of international mobile business and President of Oppo India. Sony Generates 1200 Cr Revenue From IPL 9

Broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) has mopped up Rs 1,200 crore in advertising revenue from Indian Premier Leagues (IPL) ninth season, a growth of 20 per cent over last year. It had clocked an advertising revenue of Rs 1,000 crore from IPL 8. "We have had a 20 per cent growth in revenue. This was largely based on the change in (advertising) rates," SPN India President Rohit Gupta said. SPN had hiked its advertisement rate by 15 per cent for IPL this year. The spot rate for sponsors was Rs 5.25 lakh. The spot buy rate was Rs 5.75 lakh for standard definition channels, while for HD, price was between Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh for 10-seconds.
