Kris Gopalakrishnan Funded Underwater Robot Startup!

Planys Technologies, a start-up incubated at IIT Madras Incubation Cell, and India’s first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of compact underwater robots (Remotely Operated Vehicles or ROVs) capable of performing underwater inspection, closed a INR 14 Crores round of Series A Funding. This round of funding was led by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) Start-up Fund and Ranjan Pai’s MEMG Family Office. Kris Gopalakrishnan’s (Co-Founder, Infosys; Chairman, Axilor Ventures) Pratithi Trust, Keiretsu Forum (Chennai and Singapore) and other individuals also participated in the round. Securing series C and beyond funding is a challenge for start-ups, Information Technology veteran Kris Gopalakrishnan said as he called for a simple, orderly and fast-track mechanism to shut failed businesses. Almost 70% of Startups Globally Will Fail: Kris Gopalakrishnan

Infosys Co-Founder and former CII President Kris Gopalakrishnan today said almost seventy per cent of startups globally will fail and only five to ten per cent will become large and scale up. "Almost seventy per cent of startups will fail. About 20 per cent will survive but will not grow. They will remain small enterprises, and may be only five to ten per cent will become large and scale up - that is the spastics globally," he told reporters at the announcement of the 12th Innovation Summit 2016 here, of which he is the chairman. IFC Leads Rs. 400 cr Investment in Lenskart

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is investing Rs. 171 Crores in Indian eyewear company Lenskart, to help the company expand access to high-quality and affordable eye-care products in tier-3, tier-4 cities. IFC was the lead investor for the Rs. 400 cr Series D investment round which also saw participation from TPG Growth, Adveq Management and IDG Ventures. In addition, Ratan Tata and Kris Gopalakrishnan (co-founder of Infosys) invested in their personal capacity as part of this round.
