Karnataka Govt Signs up 21 Firms to Turn ST/SC Youth into Entrepreneurs

In a bid to help startups grow and expand, the Karnataka state government has signed up 21 firms including Uber, Ola, Swiggy and Bata for its ambitious programme called Samruddhi. The programme aims at creating 10,000 entrepreneurs annually over the next three years from among the SC/ST youth. Under this, once the youth is skilled and certified by the partner enterprises, he will be free either to opt for a job or start their own venture with seed funding from the Social Welfare Department. The funding support will go up to Rs 10 lakh. For Samruddhi, the stated government has set aside Rs 800 crore. Karnataka Launches Programme to Fund SC/ST Entrepreneurs

India has been coming up with various programmes for startups for a long time. The Karnataka State Government has now launched its ambitious programme called Unnati. This programme is basically focused on promoting technology startups steered by SC/ST entrepreneurs as well as those that are developing a product or a solution with a strong rural-focus. “We will support these startups by way of funding which can go up to Rs 50 lakh,” Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge said.   The programme has been divided into two categories so as to provide benefits. Karnataka Government Issues Violation Notice To Uber,Ola

A new tussle between Karnataka government and major cab aggregators Ola and Uber have come into play, where the state government has issued a notice to the ride-hailing companies for violating against rules for charging the time-based fare. As per new traffic rules stated under Rule 11(a) of the Karnataka On-demand Transportation Technology Aggregators, cab companies cannot charge on the basis of time and hence the notice has been issued to the companies seeking an explanation for their policy of charging based on an average of Rs 1 per minute. According to a statement cited by sources, "Licence holders have to collect hire charges from passengers as per fares fixed by the government. But companies are violating the rules. The Karnataka government today signed MoUs with eight companies including Google and PwC to cater to the needs of the identified 100 startups under the state's 'Elevate 100 programme.' "Google which will provide $3000 worth of cloud credits for startups registered with Startup Cell and $20,000 worth of cloud credit for startups who are winners of Elevate100," said state IT Minister Priyank Kharge. Karnataka HC Extends Relax on Interim Ban of Ola, Uber Cabs

The Karnataka High Court today extended till June 23 its interim order directing the state transport department not to seize cabs affiliated to Ola and Uber for allegedly plying without licence, and restraining cab aggregators from demanding surge price from commuters. Extending the interim order, Justice Aravind Kumar said "since the date of the interim order ends today, this court extends it till June 23." The order had directed the cab operators not to demand surge price from commuters and asked the Karnataka Transport department not to impound cabs affiliated to Uber and Ola for plying without licence.
