Jack Dorsey, on his Maiden Trip to India, Meets Political Leaders and Bollywood Celebrities

It has been a great pleasure for India to welcome the Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey. Dorsey is on his maiden trip to India. However, the experts have been feeling that the social media platform Twitter has been missing several opportunities to make itself relevant in the country and this has been the basic purpose of the co-founder to visit the country. In its most recent earnings announcement in October, Twitter reported an annual increase of 29 percent in revenue to $758 million in India. However, its monthly active users fell to 326 million in the September quarter. "Twitter does not even account for 5 per cent of revenue from social media platforms in India," said Meenakshi Tiwari, a forecast analyst who looks at business technology and digital marketing at research firm F...

Twitter Reports Strong Profit in Q3 but Loses 9 Million Monthly Users

The social media major Twitter posted stronger-than-expected profits and revenues in the third quarter. The social network delivered a $789 million profit, which included one-time gains, compared to a net loss of $21 million in the previous year, as revenues increased 29% to $758 million. The record profit included one-time gains from tax and asset valuation adjustments, without which the company's profit would have stood at $163 million for the quarter. However, on the other hand, the company’s average monthly active users witnessed its second straight quarterly drop to 326 million, from 335 million in the previous quarter. Out of these, around 67 million monthly active users is from the United States while 259 million users is from the rest of the world. "We're achieving meaning...

Twitter Changes Strategy to Fight “Internet Trolls”

Social Media Platform Twitter is gearing up its strategy for fighting abusive "internet trolls" by announcing that it will use behavioural signals to identify harassers on its platform and then limit their visibility of tweets. Twitter's present rules already prohibit abuse as the social media platform can block or suspend offenders once someone reports them. Even Users can mute people they find offensive. The San-Francisco based giant has been into the freewheeling discussion since the times it came to inception in 2006 trying to get rid of harassment and personal attacks that were driving people away from it. Twitter's Chief Executive Jack Dorsey informed that the company is now focusing on finding problematic accounts by examining behaviour such as how frequently people tweet a...

Know why Twitter Suspended Its Blue Check Mark Verifications

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ollowing the uproar, that began Tuesday, after the company verified the account of Jason Kessler, an organizer of the August white-supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that left one protester dead and many others injured. Heather Heyer, the protester who died protesting the white nationalist rally(he created) was called "fat, disgusting communist" and that her death was "payback time". Kessler received his blue check mark less than a month after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey promised “more aggressive” enforcement against hate symbols and violent groups. Looks like I FINALLY got verified by Twitter. I must be the only working class white advocate with that distinction. pic.twitter.com/IMXqtmhgvn — Jason Kessler (@TheMadDimension) November 7, 2017 Promi...

Twitter Revenue & Users Growth Slows

Twitter Inc reported its slowest revenue growth since going public in 2013 and set a disappointing forecast, fanning concerns that faster growing social media services will make it a niche product. The microblogging service operator's shares fell 11 percent in extended trading to $16.40. While Twitter struggles to find a way to boost user growth and win over advertisers, social media services such as Instagram and Snapchat are expanding their footprints. Co-founder Jack Dorsey returned to the company as chief executive a year ago, but his plan for reviving Twitter is at best seen as unfinished. The company's second quarter revenue missed Wall Street estimates and the revenue forecast for the current quarter of $590 million to $610 million was well below the average analyst estimat...

Twitter CEO Takes No Salary, Earns $68,506 Compensation

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey did not take salary or stock options since he joined the struggling micro-blogging website last year and received personal and residential security costs totaling $68,506, a media report said on Saturday. His predecessor Dick Costolo was awarded a total of $91,795, which included a monthly salary of $7,162, car service and security costs, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to the micro-blogging website, it now has more than 300 million active users, far less when compared with Facebook's 1.5 billion users making it more popular, faster, and the choice of more marketers. Twitter reported 305 million monthly active users for the fourth quarter this year, compared to 307 million in the third quarter that excluded SMS-only followers. The almost-flat...

Twitter to keep 140-character limit, CEO Jack Dorsey says

Twitter Inc's 140-character tweets are here to stay, Chief Executive Jack Dorsey said on Friday, ending speculation that the microblogging site might abandon one of its trademark features for a 10,000-character limit. "It's staying. It's a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity," Dorsey said on NBC's Today Show. A Twitter spokesman declined to elaborate. In January, technology news website Re/code reported that Twitter was building a new feature that would allow tweets as long as 10,000 characters. Twitter has declined to comment on the feature directly. But Dorsey tweeted the day of the report that the company had seen more screenshots of text posted as a way to get around the 140-character limit. "We're not going to be shy about building more utilit...

How Dorsey Manages Being CEO Of Both Twitter And Square companies

The busy CEO reveals his secret to managing a busy life. Jack Dorsey, the CEOs of both Twitter and payments technology company Square, has a secret to keep from being overwhelmed. “I look to build a lot of consistent routine,” he said during a question and answer session Tuesday on the online forum Product Hunt. “Same thing every day. Allows a steady state that enables me to be more effective when I do have to react to something out of band.” Many have questioned whether Dorsey can successfully hold two jobs simultaneously at public companies. It is a work load that few others have tried. Of course, Steve Jobs successfully ran both Pixar and Apple for years. But after that, it’s a short list of people who have been able to pull off holding dual roles.  Dorsey said in response t...

Dorsey’s Twitter stock gift well-timed to stem brain drain

Twitter Chief Executive Jack Dorsey's novel move to give a third of his company stock to an employee equity pool is a smart gesture to restore confidence in a company that lost its way, according to recruiting and compensation experts. Beyond its generosity, the gift is a strategic effort to retain and attract key talent at the social media company, roiled by months of leadership uncertainty and questions over its long-term growth. "It's a deliberate and wise and somewhat necessary move to shore up the talent you want to keep," said recruiter Jason Hanold, who places executives and top managers in the technology industry.
