12th Nov, 2019, New Delhi: IRCTC's Tejas Express has made a profit of around $97k (Rs 70 lakh) till October this year while earning a revenue of nearly $516k (Rs 3.70 crore) through sale of tickets, sources said, signalling a steady start for the Railways' first "privately" run train. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation's Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express is part of the Railways' bid to develop 50 railway stations of world-class standards and allowing private passenger train operators to run 150 trains on its network. The Indian Railways will launch tomorrow RailCloud, a virtual server with an inbuilt security system that will enable faster connectivity at a reduced cost. Developed by rail PSU RailTel at an estimated cost of about Rs 53 crore, Railcloud is aimed at optimising server resources and its management. Cloud computing is an emerging technology for faster and on demand commensurate deployment of server resources which results in reduced cost. Satellite-based chip systems will now alert road users at unmanned level crossings about approaching trains and also help in tracking train movement on a real-time basis. On a pilot basis, the Mumbai and Guwahati Rajdhani trains will be equipped with this system. Road users will be warned by hooters once a train approaches an unmanned level crossing as railways are installing ISRO-developed integrated circuit (IC) chips on locomotives of trains. The Indian Railways will float global tenders worth over Rs 100 crore for acquiring sophisticated equipment to run 1000 trains without guards. The End of Train Telemetry (EoTT) equipment is used to establish communication between the locomotive driver and the last wagon of the train to ensure that the train is running with all coaches/wagons as a complete unit. The equipment is designed to do the guards job by giving indication to the loco driver in case of parting of coaches or wagons from the rear side of the train. IRCTC Giving 50 Percent Cash Back on Food, To Boost e-Catering

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a new scheme that provides 50 percent cash back offer on pre-paid orders having a minimum value of Rs 300, a move set to further boost its e-catering facility. The facility has become available on IRCTCs e-catering website since May 13, said IRCTC CMD AK Manocha. The cash back offer is valid only for meals booked through IRCTC and having a value of more than Rs 300 in a single order. Manocha said such a move would give a major fillip to e-catering operations of IRCTC.
