Mobile Body IAMAI Files petition Against RBI’s Cryptocurrency Ban

The Internet and Mobile Association of India( IAMAI) has filed a written petition in the Supreme Court requesting a stay against the RBI’s order to not allow banks to provide services to cryptocurrency trading platforms. IAMAI 's president Subho Ray has confirmed the filing of petition though he was not available to comment on the matter. It is interesting to note that this marks the fifth petition to be filed against Apex Bank on its order dated 6 April that disallowed entities from dealing in virtual currencies. RBI had given banks a deadline of 6 July to adhere to the new rule. Indian Unicorn Startups To Launch Nasscom Like Lobby Group- Indiatech.org

India’s Unicorn Internet startups Flipkart and Ola are grouping together with peers including travel portal MakeMyTrip to launch a Nasscom like industry body that will be representing their interests and aim to deal with deep pocketed rivals, and sustain their existence in one of the world’s most prized markets for digital commerce. The lobby group will be called Indiatech.org — and will be led by Sachin Bansal, as its President and Chairman; appointing a former IAS officer as its CEO, said four people aware of the matter. Google vice-president for South East Asia and India, Rajan Anandan has been appointed new chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). He took over charge from FreeCharges co-founder and chief executive officer Kunal Shah. MakeMyTrip Chairman & Group CEO Deep Kalra has taken over as vice chairman from music app Saavn co-founder and President Vinodh Bhat. The government is focussed on improving infrastructure and driving innovation to ensure that India ranks among the top 30 countries in terms of ease of doing business in the next 3-4 years, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said today. Speaking at an IAMAI event here, Kant said the ecosystem of innovation is just "beginning to blossom" and one is seeing a resurgence of young Indians starting new businesses. 6 Percent Levy Tax Will Hurt Indian Tech Startups: Report

The proposed 6 percent levy on online advertisement revenue of foreign companies will "severely raise the cost of doing business" for Indian tech startups, industry body IAMAI said today. "Tech startups are already paying 14.5 per cent service tax to use these ad platforms, which amounts to an estimated Rs 906 crore of taxes to government. With GST implementation, the tax rate is likely to move to 18 per cent bringing more taxes to the government from this segment," Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) said in a statement. Vijay Shekhar Sharma to Head IAMAIs Payments Banks Group

Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma will chair the newly formed Payments Banks Group at industry body IAMAI. Vodafone India business head (M-Pesa) Suresh Sethi will be the Vice-Chairman of the Group, Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) said in a statement. "Payments Banks is an innovative model of bringing unbanked population into the formal banking fold. Paytm along with other license holders, would make financial services accessible for every Indian through this innovative route," Sharma said. At present, six out of 10 payments banks primary licensees are IAMAI members. IAMAI has more than 50 companies representing PPIs, wallets, aggregators, business correspondents, PoS Operators, among others as members.

New Delhi- Advocating the need for more content in Indian languages to propel internet penetration, a report titled ‘Proliferation of Indian Languages on Internet’ finds that enabling local language content on the Internet will lead to a growth of 39% in the current Internet user base. 75% growth will be from the rural users while only 16% growth will come from urban India.
