Social media giant Facebook, which has over two million Indian small and medium businesses (SMBs) on its platform, has set up a SME Council to help small ventures from various industries share feedback and discuss ideas around leveraging technology to grow their enterprise. This is the second SME Council set up by Facebook globally, the first one being in the US. Over 45 million small businesses actively use Facebook Pages to connect to their consumers. Facebook now makes 78 percent of its ad revenue on mobile

It wasn’t that many years ago that Facebook had its aha moment — when it realized that mobile was the way forward for advertising. Flash forward to today, and mobile advertising makes up 78 percent of the social network’s total advertising revenue. Advertising makes up almost all of Facebook’s income. The mobile advertising revenue represents a 73 percent uptick from last year’s third quarter. However, revenue from ads served on personal computers was down 7 percent from last year. Facebook Inc is preparing to launch a new standalone news app called Notify next week, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the plans. The app will feature content from dozens of media partners including Vogue, the Washington Post and CBS, the newspaper said. Facebook had earlier tied up with nine news publishers to launch "Instant Articles", which publishes their content directly to the social network's mobile news feeds. YouTube offers subscribers paid option with no ads

Reuters- Alphabet Inc's YouTube will launch a $10-a-month subscription option in the United States on Oct. 28 that will allow viewers to watch videos from across the site without interruption from advertisements, the company said on Wednesday. Starting early next year, the service called YouTube Red will add exclusive shows and movies from top YouTube creators including PewDiePie, Lilly Singh and The Fine Brothers. Facebook said on Monday, that it would launch a satellite called AMOS-6 in partnership with France's Eutelsat Communications to bring Internet access to large parts of sub-Saharan Africa.
