Logistics Trends for 2020 You Should Know About

In any year, keeping up to date on the latest trends is vital for logistics business owners and operators. In 2020, though, when the world has been hit by a pandemic and shipping and other areas have been impacted, it’s even more important to keep your finger on the pulse. Market conditions and operational possibilities change all the time, but here are some of the key logistics trends for this year that you need to know about. New Marine Emissions Standards At the beginning of this year, the new maritime regulations for sulfur oxides (SOx) came into effect. Shipping and logistics firms now must cut their sulfur oxide emissions to achieve compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2020 regulations. The rule is designed to curb pollution produced by the worl...

Coronavirus wipes USD 50 billion From global Exports in February

UN economists announced a likely USD 50 billion drop in worldwide manufacturing exports in February alone as the extent of the damage to the global economy caused by novel coronavirus COVID-19 moved further into focus. Citing the China Manufacturing Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI), Pamela Coke-Hamilton, who heads UNCTAD's Division on International Trade and Commodities, said that it had fallen to 37.5 - a drop of about 20 points the lowest reading since 2004. This also correlates directly to exports and also implies a two per cent drop in overall exports, she said, with a resulting ripple effect worldwide to the tune of a USD 50 billion fall in exports. Because China has become the main supplier of finished products and so-called intermediate products used in countless industries...

Cisco to Make India Hub For Global Hardware Export

Networking giant Cisco today said it plans to make India a global export hub for its products, after recently having started manufacturing access points and routers at a facility in Pune. The US-based company also expects to complete 50 digitisation projects by the end of the year across India, which is part of its USD 100 million investment announced last year. "Our roadmap is very clear. Our first intention was to start with 5 or 6 products that we wanted to make in India for domestic market such as access points, routers etc. "The second stage is to make that centre (Pune) a global export hub. That is the next stage we are working on right now," Cisco President India and SAARC Dinesh Malkani said at the Cisco India Summit 2017. In March, Cisco had unveiled its first 'Made in...

India’s Imports From China to See a Major Decline: Report

Demand for Chinese products in India is decelerating and imports from the country would see a "major hit" in the coming months, according to a report, which revealed a significant shift in the consumption pattern of Indian consumers towards domestic products. The analysis by the PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry said increasing competitiveness of India's production capabilities to match its Chinese counterparts due to the improvement in the ease of doing business was another factor responsible for the trend. Indian production capabilities are becoming competitive as compared with China because of many reasons such as improvement in the ease of doing business. Also, there is a significant shift in the consumption pattern of Indian consumers from the Chinese products to domestic p...

Indias IT Exports Revenue Growth Will 9-10% This Fiscal: T V Mohandas Pai

The revenue growth of Indian IT exports this fiscal is likely to be slower than industry body Nasscoms projection of 10-12 per cent, according to industry veteran T V Mohandas Pai. "The figures could be lower than what Nasscom has said. But its still (expected to) be good figures. They forecast 10 to 12 per cent, I would say 9 to 10 per cent is something that could be more reasonable because we already have seen in the first quarter some companies not meeting numbers...second quarter, some companies going quiet. So, 9 to 10 per cent is reasonable," the former Board member at Infosys said. A clear picture would emerge after companies announce results for the September quarter, which is generally good for them. "Europe is beginning to look better. Brexit has hurt the UK. America... we h...
