India continues to be 3rd in Startup Ecosystem, adds over 1100 start-ups in 2019

Adding over 1,100 start-ups in 2019, India continues to reinforce its position as the third largest start-up ecosystem across the world, taking the total number of tech start-ups to 8900-9300 in the last five years, NASSCOM said here on Tuesday. The IT industry body also said that Indian startup ecosystem is geared up for "10X" growth trajectory by 2025. "From 2014-2025 the 10 year period that we will see, the Indian startup ecosystem is geared up for 10X growth trajectory over these ten yerars, which is pretty phenomenal. Meesho raises USD 125 mn in funding led by Naspers

Bengaluru-based Meesho said it has raised USD 125 million (around Rs 888 crore) in a funding round led by technology investor Naspers. The round also saw participation from Facebook and existing investors SAIF, Sequoia, Shunwei Capital, RPS and Venture Highway as well as former Vodafone Group CEO Arun Sarin. In June, Facebook had announced picking up a minority stake in Meesho, a startup that helps entrepreneurs set up online businesses via social channels. "The new funds will allow the company to make deeper inroads in areas outside India's major metro regions, by creating more entrepreneurs," Meesho said in a statement. Karnataka Govt Signs up 21 Firms to Turn ST/SC Youth into Entrepreneurs

In a bid to help startups grow and expand, the Karnataka state government has signed up 21 firms including Uber, Ola, Swiggy and Bata for its ambitious programme called Samruddhi. The programme aims at creating 10,000 entrepreneurs annually over the next three years from among the SC/ST youth. Under this, once the youth is skilled and certified by the partner enterprises, he will be free either to opt for a job or start their own venture with seed funding from the Social Welfare Department. The funding support will go up to Rs 10 lakh. For Samruddhi, the stated government has set aside Rs 800 crore. 67 Indian Startups Receive Tax Benefits From the Government

The government has extended tax benefits to 67 startups so far with a view to promoting budding entrepreneurs in the country, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry C R Chaudhary said today. In January 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had unveiled a slew of incentives to boost start-up ecosystem, offering them a tax holiday and inspector raj-free regime for three years, capital gains tax exemption and Rs 10,000 crore corpus to fund them.
