Paytm Payments Bank In Early Talks To Partner With Full-Service Banks

India’s Paytm Payments Bank is in talks to partner with full-service banks to offer services such as loans and term deposits which it cannot do on its own due to regulatory restrictions, its chief executive told Reuters. Payments banks are niche banks that were allowed by the Reserve Bank of India in a bid to expand access to financial services in Asia’s third-largest economy where millions don’t have a bank account. Airtel Payments Bank opens 10,000+ savings accounts in 2 days

Payments Bank said over 10,000 customers have opened savings accounts with it within two days of going live with a pilot project in Rajasthan. Majority of these accounts have been opened by customers in semi-urban and rural areas, underlining the potential for growth of banking services in such areas, Airtel Payments Bank said in a statement. Last week, Airtel Payments Bank became the first Payments Bank to go live in the country with the rollout of pilot services in Rajasthan.
