WhatsApp to Share User Data With Facebook: HC Seeks Govt Reply

WhatsApps recent decision to share user data with parent company Facebook today reached the doorsteps of Delhi High Court, which sought the governments response on the modification. A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Sangita Dhingra issued notice to the Centre on a plea by two users of the most popular instant messaging service, alleging that WhatsApp, Facebook Inc and Facebook India Online Pvt Ltds new private policy "compromises the rights of its users". NCR Startups Face Funding Crunch; Attract Just $170M in 2016

Funding activity in the national capital region witnessed a slowdown with deals signed worth $170 million in 155 transactions so far this year, says a report. According to 'VCCEdge Startup Funding Insights' the NCR startup ecosystem witnessed funding crunch and attracted $170 million (about Rs 1,140 crore) this year. "At the going run-rate, funding deals for the year 2016 may not be able to cross the 2014 deal value of $289 million," the report said. The year 2015 was a landmark year that registered a deal value totalling $608 million as against $289 million in 2014. Telecom regulator Trai announced today the launch of a mobile application that will help the user to measure his/her internet speed on their smartphones and send results to the authority. "The MySpeed App, which could be downloaded from the mobile sewa app store, allows users to measure their data speed experience and send the results to this (Trai Analytics Portal)," the Telecom Regulatory Authority said in a statement. The portal and the application will be formally launched by the regulator on 5th of July, 2016. Indian Telecom Operators Mobile Data Revenue May Hit Rs 95.5K cr in 5yrs

Indian telecom operators are expected to rake in Rs 95,500 crore in revenues from mobile data services over the next five years, says a report by ICRA. Mobile data revenues are expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21 per cent by financial year 2021 and are expected to contribute 34 per cent to the total mobile service earnings, the ratings agency said. At present, mobile data accounts for about 20 percent of the telecom operators revenues, the report said. "Over the last five years, data revenues for the ICRA Sample of telcos traced a strong CAGR of 54 per cent from Rs 3,200 crore in FY 2011-12 to Rs 27,450 crore in FY 2015-16," ICRA AVP Corporate Sector ratings Harsh Jagnani said. Maharashtra Police has informed the Indian Railways about the suspected hacking and theft of data from the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website. Digital Ad Spending in India Will Touched $1 bn in 2017, $11.82 billion in 2020: eMarketer

Digital ad spending in India is forecast to surpass the USD 1-billion mark, accounting for 14.3 per cent of the total media advertisement outlay, in 2017, a report by eMarketer today said. The report, which pegs the total media advertisement spending to grow to over USD 8.2 billion next year, said advertisers in India will spend more than USD 1.1 billion towards digital advertisement. "This year, just 12.6 per cent of all advertisement spending will go towards digital. In 2017, digital ad spending in India will surpass USD 1 billion and will amount to 14.3 per cent of total outlays.
