TikTok Agrees to Pay $92 Million to Settle Lawsuit Alleging Data Theft

CHICAGO, 3rd March 2021-- US-based law firms will receive a $92 million proposed class action settlement on behalf of users of the TikTok app. The settlement, if approved by the court, would resolve claims that the social media company wrongfully collected its users’ biometric information and private data, and disclosed that information to third parties. In addition to creating a monetary fund for TikTok users, the settlement requires that TikTok initiate a new privacy compliance training program and take other steps to protect its users’ privacy going forward. TikTok refutes allegations of Indian politician over data sharing

Chinese video-sharing app TikTok refuted India's opposition leader allegations of collecting user data illegally. In a statement to media, Chinese firm ByteDance owned app said it abides by all local laws and regulations. The privacy and security of users are its top priority. The statement came in response to India's senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor alleging in the Lok Sabha that the short video platform was illegally collecting data and sending to China. This is understood to have been conveyed to the four CICs — TU Cibil, Equifax, Experian and Highmark — by a senior official of the Indian Banks Association (IBA) in a meeting on Thursday.
