Indian News Aggregator App Dailyhunt acquires LocalPlay

India's leading News discovery app Dailyhunt announced the acquisition of hyperlocal content platform LocalPlay for an undisclosed sum. Bengaluru-based Dailyhunt said, the acquisition underscores its aggressive strategy of attracting new users, residing in tier I, III and IV Indian cities and towns, who are always hungry to stay updated on all the latest hyperlocal happenings. Alibaba Proposes to invest $500 Mn in Dailyhunt

The multinational e-commerce giant Alibaba is planning to buy a minority stake of upto $500 million in Dailyhunt (formerly known as Newshunt), an online news providing platform said two people close to the development reported livemint. According to the duo, Alibaba has already offered a deal closing at $500 million to Dailyhunt but the news aggregator is looking for more investors, other than Alibaba. “The talks are, however, not yet conclusive as Dailyhunt is also looking for other funding options apart from Alibaba,” said one of the person aware of the matter, on the request of staying anonymous. Dailyhunt, an app for news and e-book invested Rs 15 crore in the local news language portal OneIndia also known as Greynium Information Technologies, owned by Rajesh Jain and BG Mahesh. The funding from DailyHunt seen as a revenues sources for advertisement spend on digital with increasing smartphone users. Dailyhunt and Oneindia already have a content partnership.
