Mashable Received $15 Million Funding From Time Warner

The News website Mashable (digital media) received $15 million funding round from Time Warner Inc.’s Turner division (traditional TV network). Mashable will use the latest funding round to expand its video offerings, including on traditional TV, and enhance its advertising capabilities, according to the statement. The funding will also use to co-develop and distribute video content of Turner’s TBS, TNT channels and Mashable. Both companies will work together on new technology and advertising opportunities, according to a statement Thursday. In addition, Kevin Reilly, chief creative officer for Turner Entertainment and president of TBS and TNT, will join Mashable’s board. Voot Video-on-Demand Service Launched in India

Media and entertainment major Viacom18 Tuesday launched its advertising-led video-on-demand platform Voot. Voot, a 50:50 joint venture between Viacom Group and the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, will have a large repository of original content and roll out shows in both long and short formats across genres like comedy and drama. The platform will have kids characters from across networks, from Nick characters like Dora, Spongebob, Motu Patlu to external popular characters like Chhota Bheem and Pokémon. Use of Indian Languages is Critical to Achieve The Digital India Dream: Report

New Delhi- Advocating the need for more content in Indian languages to propel internet penetration, a report titled ‘Proliferation of Indian Languages on Internet’ finds that enabling local language content on the Internet will lead to a growth of 39% in the current Internet user base. 75% growth will be from the rural users while only 16% growth will come from urban India. The report, published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), finds that The English language still accounts for 56% of the content on the worldwide web while Indian languages account for less than 0.1%.
