Gionee to Spend Rs 400 Cr on Marketing

Handset maker Gionee will spend around Rs 400 crore on marketing and branding activities over the next few months to capitalise on the festive season demand. The Chinese company, which plans to launch four new smartphones by mid-October, also aims to expand its market share in India to 7-10 per cent by next March. "We had earmarked a budget of Rs 600 crore this year and we have utilised one-third of it till now. About Rs 200 crore will be pumped in the festive season and the remaining amount will be used in the latter part of the fiscal towards various marketing and branding efforts," Gionee India MD and CEO Arvind Vohra said. Vijay Shekhar Sharma Led Paytm Will Spend Rs 600 Cr on Advertisement in 2016-17

Mobile wallet and e-commerce firm Paytm, run by One97 Communication Ltd, will spend Rs.600 crore on ads in 2016-17, the company said on Monday. Last year the company had spent more than Rs.500 crore in 2015-16. According to sources, last three years when companies would invest heavily in brand building and customer acquisition, now the target is expected to be more on the lines of return on investment. I am a freelance theatre publicist, and I often get asked “what’s the difference between marketing and publicity?” so I thought I’d write a post on it. Marketing has a much larger reach. Marketing includes anything to do with your brand. I can hear you now: “I’m an artist. I paint. I don’t have a brand.” But I would argue that you do. You may not hire a big-ass ad agency to create an overall branding “look” for you, but if you have an online presence (or “footprint”), which can include website, blog, and participation in social media, then you have a brand. If you have a logo, or even a signature, that is part of your branding. The key is to keep things similar across the board: choose similar colour schemes, fonts, and wording when you explain what it is you do, and who you are. ...
