Bike Taxi App Raises Fresh Funding From Skycatcher, Others

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]yderabad based Bike taxi operator Rapido, run by Roppen Transportation Services Pvt Ltd has received a funding of Rs 2.14 crore (around $329K) in a fresh round of funding from US Based Skycatcher Fund and UK-based Thompson Taraz Managers, Aravind Sanka, co-founder at Rapido told a financial daily. The bike taxi startup will be utilizing its funds to expand its geographical presence in the country, and strengthen its team. Rapido had earlier raised a funding of $422K in a round led by US based Battery Road Digital Holdings LLC. The round saw participation from its existing investor Astarc Ventures and an undisclosed Indian technology fund as per the reports by VCCircle. Delhi Govt Puts on Hold Bike-Taxi and Rent-a-Bike Schemes

The city government has put on hold its bike-taxi and rent-a-bike schemes after authorities in Gurgaon and Bengaluru launched a crackdown over rampant violations in their operations. The AAP government had in February last year approved the rent-a-bike scheme but not notified it. It was aimed at providing last mile connectivity to tourists and individual in the city. The Bike-taxi scheme was, however, under consideration. "In Gurgaon and Benguluru, operators of rent-a-bike and bike-taxi schemes were running private vehicles which is in violation of rules. Only commercial vehicles are allowed under the scheme," said a senior official. Odd-Even: These Startups Offering Free Rides

With the second phase of odd-even scheme set to be rolled out from tomorrow, ride-sharing startups are lining up with free rides and scaling up operations to handle higher demand from consumers. The odd-even scheme was implemented on an experimental basis from January 1 to January 15 in view of high air pollution in the national capital. The second phase will commence on April 15. Uber launches Bike Taxi “UberMOTO” in Gurgaon

After Bengaluru, taxi-hailing app Uber today launched a pilot of its bikesharing product "uberMOTO" in Gurgaon. "Uber today announced a pilot of Uber's bikesharing product - uberMOTO in Gurgaon... This follows our agreement with the government of Haryana to introduce technology based ride-sharing services in the state," it said in a statement. The company has set minimum fare at Rs 15, followed by Rs 3 per km and Rs 1 per min of ride-time charges. The minimum fare is Rs 20. It will compete with companies like Baxi. Taxi service providers in India, Ola and Uber have launched Bike Taxi services in Bengaluru on the same day. The minimum fare of UberMoto starting at Rs. 15 and Rs. 30 for Ola Bikes.
