Jio Crosses 50 Million Subscriber Mark in 83 Days, 1,000 Customers Per Minute And 6 Lakh Per Day

Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio has crossed the 50 million subscriber mark in less than three months after its full-fledged 4G services launch to emerge as the largest broadband operator in the country. According to sources, Jio setting a new record has acquired 1,000 customers per minute (since September 05) and 6 lakh per day. "Jio continues to be the fastest growing company in the world and has crossed 50 million subscribers in record 83 days," sources pointed out. Airtel Gets Payment From Jio For New PoIs; Start Joint Testing Now

Bharti Airtel, which has been engaged in an inter-connectivity tiff with Reliance Jio, today said it has received payment from the new entrant for additional points of interconnect, and sought Jio's cooperation for timely testing and commissioning of the network ports. Airtel said while interconnect agreement provides for a commissioning period of 90 days, the company will work towards releasing the points of interconnect or PoIs "well ahead" of the contractual obligation. The telecom operator said it has ensured there are no capacity constraints from its end. "We hope Jio will extend its full cooperation to ensure timely testing and commissioning of the PoIs," it said in a statement. Exclusive: Dilip Shanghvi, IDFC Bank Withdraw From Payments Bank

Telenor Financial Services, IDFC Bank and Sun Pharma's Dilip Shanghvi have decided to withdraw their licence to set up a payments bank. They are the second applicant to withdraw from the licence after Cholamandalam group pulled out of payments banks race a couple of months back. In a joint press statement, the partners said: "Dilip Shanghvi, IDFC Bank and Telenor Financial Services jointly agree to withdraw plans to establish a payments bank venture and consequently the payment bank licence will not be pursued."
