Augmented Reality Startup PlayShifu raises USD 7 million

Playshifu, a start-up focussed on augmented reality technology has raised USD 7 million (about Rs 48.2 crore) in funding led by Chiratae, Inventus Capital and Bharat Innovation Fund. The series-A round also saw participation from existing investor IDFC-Parampara Fund, a statement said. PlayShifu creates immersive augmented reality experiences for children to encourage early STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills. AR-Focused Ed-Tech Startup Raises $2 Mn Funding

Smartivity Labs, an Augmented Reality (AR) EdTech startup, recently raised $2 Mn from Ashish Kacholia, an early venture investor. The funds raised will serve to scale Smartivity’s operations in international markets. Smartivity Labs is also backed by S Chand Group, a publishing company based in Delhi. We closed 2017-18 at $1.4 Mn at around 2.5x to 3x year-on-year growth. This year, we are projecting around $3.5 Mn. Palo Alto, California and Bengaluru based startup GridRaster, bagged a seed funding of $2 million from a clutch of investors including Exfinity Ventures, Lumia Capital, Pipeline Capital, NexStar Partners, Unshackled Ventures and Explorer Group. The startup works on enabling high-end virtual and augmented reality experiences on mobile devices, using multiple stack approach. The company plans to utilize the fund in the development of their product and its marketing. Smartivity, an Augmented Reality Based Education Technology Startup Has Raised Rs 6.6 crore Funding

An augmented reality-based education technology startup Smartivity, has raised about Rs 6.6 crore in a pre-Series-A round of funding led by publishing firm S Chand and early-stage investment firm AdvantEdge Partners. The round also saw participation from Singapore-based fund CFG Offshore Holdings, Silicon Valley-based fund Tandem Capital and a clutch of angel investors. NEW YORK: After changing the orthodox ways of chatting, video messaging application Snapchat is now reportedly working to give tough competition to Google with its own augmented reality (AR) "smart" glasses. According to a TechCrunch report, Snapchat has hired developers from major augmented reality groups like Microsoft's HoloLens, PTC's (formerly Qualcomm's) Vuforia and eye-tracking tech maker Eyefluence to make Snapchat's pair of "smart" glasses. The company showed interest when Google launched Glass and later bought Vergence Labs, which produced a pair of glasses equipped with an embedded camera for $15 million in March 2014.
