Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Launched Tech Startup Incubator

Marissa Mayer, Former Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo has built a technology business incubator, Lumi Labs, with longtime colleague Enrique Munoz Torres. A brilliant computer scientist and 20th former employee at Google is known to have strengthened and shaped many of company's trademark features including Google Maps and Gmail. As per information from the company website, which is set against a backdrop of snow-covered peaks the venture will focus on artificial intelligence and consumer media. Mayer told that Lumi stands for Snow in Finnish earlier on Wednesday. She said, We have this little lab called Lumi that we have been working on. In Finnish, Lumi means snow, and I just love snow. Micromax Invests in All-In-One App ‘One Labs’

Micromax invested in a consumer technology and AI based start-up ‘One Labs’ who manufactured a product ‘inOne’ allowing users to access apps across different categories including food, shopping, travel, deals, cabs, news, recharge, games, etc… ‘InOne’ is the star product of One Labs and presently regroups over 50 apps in a 10 mb program. Some apps come pre-installed in 'inOne' such as Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, Zomato, Ola, Uber, BookMyShow, Housejoy, Nearbuy, UrbanClap, etc… The app serves the purpose of saving up device storage by installing only one app instead of downloading 20 apps for 20 different purposes. The app is very helpful to save internal storage and is perfectly tailored to meet the needs of Micromax’s budget smartphones. ‘InOne’ will also gain advantage of the 1...

Machine Learning Will Not Replace People In All Jobs: Study

Machine learning computer systems, which get better with experience, can outperform people in a number of tasks, though they are unlikely to replace people in all jobs, a study has found. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US found 21 criteria to evaluate whether a task or a job is amenable to machine learning (ML). "Although the economic effects of ML are relatively limited today, and we are not facing the imminent end of work as is sometimes proclaimed, the implications for the economy and the workforce going forward are profound," researchers said. The skills people choose to develop and the investments businesses make will determine who thrives and who falters once ML is ingrained in everyday life, they argue. ...

Narayana Murthy Dismissed Threats From Artificial Intelligence, Call it “More Hype than Reality”

Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy has flayed the high wage hikes that senior managements have been apportioning to themselves when the software industry is in trying times and has advised them to make "sacrifices" to maintain common mans faith in capitalism. Conceding that times are difficult for the IT services sector, Murthy dismissed the commonly attributed threats of artificial intelligence and automation as "more hype than reality". Terming the trend of no hikes for juniors and freshers as "worrisome," Murthy rued that the senior level people have been taking handsome hikes. "I think that is not the way to make capitalism acceptable to the larger masses in a country that has huge poverty," he said, speaking at the IIT-Bombay over the weekend. "If we believe in capitalism, ...

Google Launching Artificial Intelligence Research Center In China

Alphabet Inc’s Google said on Wednesday it is opening an artificial intelligence (AI) research center in China to target the country’s local talent, even as the U.S. search firm’s products remain blocked in the country. Google said in a statement the research center is the first of its kind in Asia and will comprise a small team operating out of its existing office in Beijing. Chinese policy makers have voiced strong support for AI research and development in the country, but have imposed increasingly strict rules on foreign firms in the past year, including new censorship restrictions. Google’s search engine is banned in the Chinese market along with its app store, email and cloud storage services. China’s cyber regulators say restrictions on foreign media and internet platforms ...

Agri Startup Gobasco Raises Funds From Matrix Partners

Agriculture supply chain tech startup Gobasco has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Matrix Partners India. Co-founded by Vedant and Abhishek in early 2017, the startup aims to solve complex supply chain optimisation problems, by combining large scale data integration with proprietary technologies. The details about the funding round were not disclosed but Gobasco will be using the funds for scaling up and building a full stack commerce platform that yields higher operational efficiency. "The goal is to use artificial intelligence and big data to optimise the agri-supply-chain across India," said Abhishek Sharma, cofounder of Gobasco.  The startup is based in Lucknow and NCR and has till now served 5,000 farmers till date. This AI System Can Predict Earthquakes

Scientists have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system to successfully predict earthquakes, an advance that can help prepare for natural disasters and potentially save lives. The study, published in the journal Geophysical Review Letters, identified a hidden signal that led up to earthquakes and used this fingerprint to train a machine learning algorithm to predict future earthquakes. Researchers at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and Boston University in the US studied the interactions between earthquakes, precursor quakes and faults, disturbances, hoping to develop a method for predicting earthquakes. Using a lab-based system that mimics real earthquakes, they used machine learning techniques to analyze the acoustic signals that came from the disturbance as ...

Artificial Intelligence: A Future Face Of The Startups

With the effort of Tesla of introducing AI to self- drive  capability,it has shown others the infinite possibilities AI is sitting upon! In the near future, AI might get so involved and integrated in our daily lives that we could not imagine a service without it.  The field of artificial intelligence has a transformative capability over many things that govern our daily lives. Companies from the fields of Tech and Automobiles are leaving no stones unturned to integrate AI in their systems. Legacy companies won't have a choice — consumer demand will compel them to invest in new technologies and AI is a prime example of the breakthroughs they seek. As computers get smarter and learn more, many of the factors causing accidents, injuries and fatalities will disappear. With the advance...
