Niti Aayog to Push “Make in India” for Medical Devices

Government policy think tank, Niti Aayog is all geared up to boost production of medical devices in India. In its meeting held on Wednesday, the organisation discussed mull measures like tax-based incentives and caps on distributor and retailer margins, as reported by sources. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of regulatory body's CEO Amitabh Kant. A person concerned with the matter informed that the Niti Aayog is currently working on proposals o incentivise domestic manufacturing of medical devices following orders from the Prime Minister's Office. BHIM App Crosses 18 Million Downloads

Indigenous digital payments app BHIM, launched by the central government last December for fast and secure cashless transactions, has recorded 18 million downloads so far, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant today said. "#BHIMApp breaks all records! Crosses a record of 18 million downloads since its launch on Dec 30 2016. #GoCashlessGoDigital," Kant said in a tweet. ‘Make in India Week’ gets Rs 15.2 lakh crore investment commitments

MUMBAI: The week-long Make in India event here has secured investment commitments worth Rs 15.2 lakh crore, with host state Maharashtra alone accounting for Rs 8 lakh crore. Amitabh Kant, secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, was on Thursday appointed as the chief executive officer of Niti Aayog. He will take over the new job after his retirement, next month-end.
