China Plans to Import American Goods Worth $70 Billion

This offer popped up during a meeting in Beijing held this weekend between Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and the Chinese economic adviser Liu He. Trade War between America and China Officially Begins

US President Donald Trump went ahead with his trade war despite China’s advice to abandon the move. However, Donald Trump turned a deaf ear to the Chinese government and imposed tariffs of $60 billion on Chinese imports to serve as punishment for what US President considers to be “unfair” appropriation of American intellectual property. A move that will surely add more tension on an already 'not-very-friendly' trade relations between the two biggest economies of the world.   The Cause of Conflict Trump advised the US trade representative to set up the tariffs to almost $60 billion worth of Chinese imports after a probe of seven months into the intellectual property theft, which has been a sensitive issue in the US-China trade relations. "We have a tremendous intellectual prope...

The ‘Rule’ Of Continental Food In India

The British ruled India for over 200 years. So goes the story. Some do argue that they took a 100 years to conquer and ruled another 100 before they were sent back. But, that is a debate for another day. During this tenure they did influence many aspects in India. Education, medical services, fashion and food are probably some of the very obvious ones. Their influence on food is a definite yes as continental food is a huge contribution by the British to Indian culinary. Some stories do indicate that continental food was introduced to the then royal families of India by the British as a token of friendship. It is said that continental food percolated to the commoners through the kitchens of Indian royals. There is no way to ratify any such observations. The popularity and accep...

Mark Zuckerberg Criticises Donald Trump on Immigration Limit, Gave Example of His Wife

America is a nation of immigrants and should be proud of it, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said as he criticised President Donald Trump's decision to severely limit immigrants and refugees from certain Muslim-majority countries. "Like many of you, I'm concerned about the impact of the recent executive orders signed by President Trump," Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page. "We need to keep this country safe, but we should do that by focusing on people who actually pose a threat ... We should also keep our doors open to refugees and those who need help. That's who we are." "We should also keep our doors open to refugees and those who need help. That's who we are. Had we turned away refugees a few decades ago, Priscilla's family wouldn't be here today," he wrote of his wife, Priscilla ...

Regtech’ Startups See More Business in Trump Era

President elect Donald Trump is pro-business and anti-red tape. But what if your business is red tape? Companies whose technology helps banks and investors cope with the welter of post financial crisis regulations and avoid increasingly hefty fines - a sector known as "regtech" - are sanguine about Trump's pledge to dismantle some of those reforms. Their equanimity is based on a belief that if regulations are replaced rather than scrapped and the overall system of rules becomes more fragmented, financial firms will need their systems to navigate the new landscape. "Change is itself a driver of regtech adoption," said David Buxton, the chief executive of compliance startup Arachnys. "Volatility creates opportunity for relatively nimble regtech firms." Founded in London in 2010, Ara...

Major American Newspaper Media Outsource Its IT Services To India

A major American media company which owns prestigious dailies like Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune will outsource a part of its IT component to Indian software giant TCS, according to a media report. Chicago-based Tribune Publishing Company said it has informed its IT employees last month that it is moving work to India-based IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a news report in Computer World said yesterday. However, it did not say the number of employees would be hit by such a move. "IT employees at Tribune Publishing say they received warning of the outsourcing late last year. In April, they were told that over an 18-month period, Tribune would be moving to information technology outsourcing across its business, according to employees contacted," the report said. ...

A Fall In Tech Valuations, U.S. and Chinese unicorns running in different directions

A fall in tech valuations may send U.S. and Chinese unicorns running in different directions. Several private Silicon Valley firms worth $1 billion or more have taken valuation hits once they are in the public eye. The same may be happening to one-horned beasts in the People’s Republic, only in private. Take Jack Dorsey’s U.S. online payments outfit, Square. The shares popped enthusiastically on the company’s stock market debut in November, but its market capitalization remains about a third below the $6 billion price tag implied by an earlier private funding round. Some unicorns that have yet to go public are already feeling the chill. Fidelity Investments, a prominent investor in late-stage private financings, recently marked down its holding in Snapchat by 25 percent from a headline ...

Global economy depends on more than India in 2016

By Peter Thal Larsen and Robyn Mak (Reuters)- India will not rescue the global economy in 2016. The subcontinent’s expanding GDP is one of next year’s few economic bright spots. But Indian output is still too small. Any negative shocks from the sluggish United States and decelerating China will reverberate more widely. India is finally emerging from China’s shadow in the global growth stakes. Helped by a controversial overhaul of its GDP statistics, the Indian economy probably expanded by 7.5 percent in 2015 and is set to swell by a further 7.8 percent in 2016. Contrast that with the People’s Republic, which is struggling to maintain the near-7 percent pace promised by its leaders. The prospect of sustained rapid growth has drawn the attention of prominent central bankers. India’s ec...
