Indian Online Matrimony Firm Appoints Former Aircel Exec Sankara Narayanan

The popular India matchmaking and wedding services firm Matrimony.com has announced a new appointment where former Aircel top executive Sankara Narayanan will join the company as its Chief Operating Officer. He will be responsible to lead the matchmaking vertical of the company. Narayanan is a Stanford University graduate and has a commendable business experience from leading teams in diverse industries including telecom and finance sectors. He has also been heading National Operations at Aircel before his appointment as COO with Matrimony.com. Malaysian Billionaire Set to Lose $7 billion after Aircel’s Bankruptcy Filing

Malaysian billionaire T. Ananda Krishnan’s company is set to make a loss of around $7 billion from a failed 12-year investment in the Indian telecom company Aircel Ltd, which officially announced the start of insolvency proceedings on Wednesday. Krishnan’s holding company Maxis Communcations Bhd had spent about $3.4 billion in shareholder rights to Aircel; amount which they will never see again. A person close to the company said anonymously that the holding company has also spent around 1.2 billion in Aircel in return for common stock. They also subscribed to $1.6 billion of redeemable preference shares. Reliance Communications, Aircel Merge Will Create Rs 65K cr Asset Base Entity

Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications today agreed to merge its wireless telecom business with smaller rival Aircel to create the country's 4th-biggest mobile phone operator with asset base of more than Rs 65,000 crore. In the largest consolidation in the countrys telecom sector, RCom and Aircels majority owner, Malaysias Maxis Communications Berhad (MCB), announced signing of definitive documents for the merger of their Indian wireless businesses. RCom and Aircel will hold 50 per cent each in the new company. The board of the new company will have equal representation from the two sides.
