Indigo and Air India Express Ranked Amongst the Top 5 Cheapest Airlines Globally

The budget carriers Air India Express and IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) have made it to the top five cheapest airlines in the world in providing international connectivity. This seems to be an achievement for the country, where the wholly-owned subsidiary of state-run carrier Air India Express has been ranked second whereas the low-cost carrier IndiGo has been placed at the fifth position by the Global Flight Pricing Report prepared by Melbourne-based multimodal travel planning site called Rome2rio. In addition to this, the Jet Airways and Air India have also been placed at the 12th and 13th rank respectively by the report. Centre May Completely Exit Air India, Sell It’s Residual Stake to LIC

A Business Standard Report suggests that Government may completely exit Air India by selling its residual stakes to Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and other financial institutions. As per the plans, 76 percent of equity would be sold in the national carrier, 50 percent in ground handling and AISATS hospitality firm, while 100 percent would go in its subsidiary Air India Express. This move will make things clear and do away with investor's concerns over the matter of government's intrusion in Air India operations.
