Indian Government To Launch Web Portal For Startups By Next Week

NEW DELHI: Government will launch a portal for startups by next week and begin the registration process with a view to encourage budding entrepreneurs and promote ease of doing business, a top official said today. Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Ramesh Abhishek said that 'Start-up India' is an important initiative and steps have already been taken to implement the action plan announced by the government. Indian Govt. Asks Google To Choose Telecom Partner For Loon Project

The government has asked technology giant Google to select a telecom operator in India for testing its Loon Project, the balloon-based Internet technology. "Google wants to test the Loon Project in expensive and scarce spectrum bands. It has been asked to partner with any telecom operator that can meet its requirement and then approach the government for testing Loon," an official said. "This approach should resolve the spectrum band sought by Google as well as security to some extent," the official added. The Loon Project is a research and development project being developed by Google X with the mission of providing Internet access to the rural and remote areas. Stand Up India Scheme Allocates Rs.500 Crore For SC ST and Women

New Delhi, Feb.29: Sharing his nine pillars for what he called a transformational budget for fiscal 2016-17, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday announced that under the Stand-Up India scheme, a sum of Rs.500 crores has been allocated to people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC and ST) and women entrepreneurs. The Startup India campaign is based on an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage start-ups with jobs creation. New Delhi: A Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) committee has advised credible third party certification in most areas of government regulation to further facilitate ease of doing business in the country. The committee, which was headed by former DIPP secretary Ajay Shankar realeased a full page report and said once government allows third party certification, multiple players could emerge within a year’s time. As a deterrent, however, the committee suggested that some percentage of such certification should be subjected to random audit with stiff penalties leading up to even withdrawal of accreditation for laxity. New Delhi: In a boost to net neutrality, Facebook has decided to shut down its controversial 'Free Basics' programme in India, following telecom regulator Trai's move to bar operators from charging different rates for Internet access based on content. Facebook had met with severe criticism for its programme, which aimed at providing basic Internet access to people in partnership with telecom operators. Critics saw this as violation of the principle of net neutrality that states that entire Internet should be available to everyone on equal terms as Free Basics allowed access to selected websites. NEW DELHI: Mobile phones manufacturing in India may reach 500 million units in coming two years on the back of the good base of talent and an incentive policy, a top Department of Telecom (DoT) official said today. This year, India produced 100 million phones as compared to 45 million last year. "The number of phones being manufactured was 10 million sometime back (which increased) to 45 million last year and 100 million this year.
