The hack occurred on September 25, when Facebook’s engineering team discovered a security breach. This breach enabled unknown attackers to take over 50 million user accounts, and another 40 million were vulnerable to the attack. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company did not know who was behind this attack.
