Love shopping? Who doesn’t, right! Shopping is enjoyed at its best when we get everything as per our choice, be it the product of our choice, or the extra savings out of bargaining we do, or the satisfaction of buying at the best price after checking each and every option available.
But have you ever felt a disconnect while shopping offline with the online world? I am not talking about the products that have particular model number and name that can be easily searched online, but the products like a particular apparel or anything that cannot be mapped easily. If you are also on a same page, we have a very exciting solution for you all.
How about snapping the particular product you want to buy and searching through that image online for best options? Is that possible? Well, yes it is, with SnapShopr.
Snapshopr: Raising the curtains:
SnapShopr is India’s first and only artificial intelligence startup founded by a team with experience in computer vision, data science and robotics.Or in other words, SnapShopr is a Visual Search and Image Recognition platform targeted towards brands, retailers and mobile app developers.
With SnapShopr’s image search technology, you can create apps that can help you search similar apparels and accessories using just a photo.
Currently incubated by TLabs-Bangalore, SnapShopr describes its “proprietary image recognition technology” as a USP for the venture, which is quite unique!
How it works:
Amazing idea, How it popped up?
“This came out of a personal experience in early 2014 when I was in Bangalore doing an internship. I was walking by a store and I saw a mannequin wearing a really nice dress which I wanted to buy for my girlfriend’s birthday the following week.” tells Navneet, Co-founder and CEO at SnapShopr.
Navneet, who also got job offers from Apple and Microsoft to join their AI teams, further adds, “Unfortunately, the dress was way too costly for me and I wanted to know if there were dresses similar to that on online stores. I found there was no way for me to do that. I had to buy something else for her.”
And how the execution kicked off?
“It occurred to me there has to be easier ways to search for visual items like a beautiful dress and that inspiration can come from anywhere. This led to me discussing the idea with her and my friend Debashish who was working at that time with a startup in Bangalore. A couple of months later we all came together to build the solution to that problem.” recalls Navneet, who takes care of the product and strategies at SnapShopr.
